About The Role

The RN Clinical Periop Nurse is a proactive member of an interdisciplinary team of licensed and unlicensed caregivers who ensure that patients, families, and significant others receive individualized high-quality, safe patient care. They practice in a clinical environment administered by Nurse Managers and other leaders, supported through the WellStar Shared Governance Model. The framework for practice is guided by the WellStar Professional Practice Model, 5-Star Nursing, and evidence-based practice and research. RN competencies derive from these models and are supported by the WellStar Core Competencies.

It is expected that all RN Clinical Nurses are licensed, knowledgeable, and uphold the practice of nursing as outlined by the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act, implementing the Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics Standards put forth by the American Nurses Association. As a member of the patient services team, the individual upholds the voice of the patient, system policies, and procedures while supporting service excellence goals.

Responsibilities

  • Exemplary Practice and Outcomes:
    • Performs the Nursing Process (assessment, diagnosis, identification of outcomes, planning, implementation, and evaluation) using evidence-based practice.
    • Uses analytical and critical thinking to ensure individualized care and coordinates care through effective partnerships, recognizing that caring is central to achieving optimal patient care outcomes.
    • Provides relationship-based, patient-centered care consistent with population-specific characteristics (e.g., age, gender, disease) while adapting service delivery to reflect cultural diversity.
    • Partners with patients and significant others using appropriate methods (e.g., bedside shift report, interdisciplinary rounds, patient teaching) to keep them updated and align care with patient goals.
    • Practices using current clinical practice standards.
  • Teamwork and Collaboration:
    • Coordinates the delivery and documentation of safe, high-quality patient care that promotes the professional care delivery model.
    • Demonstrates inclusive interdisciplinary communication (e.g., rounds, case reviews) and timely documentation in a respectful, inclusive clinical environment.
    • Practices in a fiscally responsible manner to support recruitment and retention of healthcare team members.
    • Participates in and supports performance improvement, research, and shared governance at all levels.
  • Professional Development and Initiative:
    • Completes all initial and ongoing professional competency assessments, mandatory education, and population-specific education.
    • Serves as a preceptor or mentor for professional nurses and other staff or students to ensure a qualified workforce and models professional practice.
  • Evidence-Based Practice and Research:
    • Promotes evidence-based practice, nursing research, and performance improvement.
    • Participates in value analysis for patient care products and upholds all organizational policies, clinical competencies, and regulatory standards.
    • Participates in data collection, poses clinical questions, consults experts, and uses resources to address practice questions.
  • Resources and Support:
    • Proactively plans patient care across the continuum while providing direct care.
    • Collaborates in developing protocols and procedures to achieve best practice outcomes (e.g., reducing readmissions, avoidable days, adverse events).
    • Supports efficient use of human and material resources.
  • Performs other duties as assigned and complies with all WellStar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.

Requirements

  • Education:
    • Associate’s degree in Nursing or Nursing Diploma (required).
    • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (preferred).
  • Licenses and Certifications:
    • Registered Nurse (RN) license in a single state or multi-state compact (required).
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required).
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 5 years of direct patient care nursing experience (required).
