Full time – 40 Hour Day/Evening Rotating Shift with on-call requirement and 1 weekend every 4th weekend (PACU hours 6am-11:30pm).

About the role

At St. Joseph’s Health, the Surgical Services Department records more than 11,000 surgeries annually in state-of-the-art operating rooms, providing a full range of surgical services and care for ambulatory, elective, and critically ill patients. The Registered Nurse Surgical Admit & Recovery is responsible for providing high-quality nursing care to patients before and after surgical procedures, ensuring safe transitions between preoperative and post-anesthesia care phases.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and prepare patients for surgery, including reviewing medical history and administering preoperative medications.
  • Monitor patients in the Pre-Op area, ensuring they are stable and ready for surgery.
  • Provide immediate post-anesthesia care, monitoring vital signs and assessing for complications.
  • Educate patients and families on post-operative care, discharge instructions, and recovery expectations.
  • Demonstrate strong assessment, critical thinking, and patient advocacy skills along with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and respond quickly to changing patient conditions.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited college or university affiliated nursing program (BSN preferred).
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in New York.
  • BLS/CPR certification (CNOR or CPAN certification a plus).
  • Minimum of 1-2 years’ experience in Pre-Op, PACU, or Surgical/Perioperative Nursing.

Pay

Pay range: $38.75 - $54.85 per hour, based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary based on location.
