Registered Nurse (RN), Pre-Operative/PACU/OR - Full Time

About the Role

Assesses, plans, implements, evaluates and documents nursing care of patients in accordance with established Federal, State and accreditation standards and ASC policies and procedures. This position is accountable for the quality of nursing services delivered by self or others under his/her direction. Participates in direct patient care and maintains a clean, orderly and safe environment.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and direct patient care in an individual Operating Room, ensuring proper techniques and practices are used in accordance with accepted standards of practice.
• Comply with HIPAA regulations and patient rights.
• Perform duties ethically and legally within the scope of the RN license as defined by the State.
• Supervise other personnel in the room and direct or assist as necessary; report unusual occurrences and document appropriately.
• Demonstrate primary nursing accountability through coordination, communication, and continuity of patient care.
• Assess, prioritize, plan, and implement patient care effectively.
• Maintain accurate and legible medical records.
• Participate in continuing education, staff meetings, and quality assurance programs.
• Follow physician orders and management directions.
• Actively participate in developing a healthy work environment and assist in training new staff.
• Balance team and individual responsibilities; work appropriately with other departments.
• Perform circulating duties, including maintaining counts on sponges, needles, and instruments.
• Prepare the operative area, position patients, and adjust tables according to standard policies.
• Open sterile packs and supplies using aseptic technique.
• Assist surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other personnel as needed; observe patients for changes in condition.
• Review surgeon’s preference cards for medications and verify with the surgeon.
• Administer and chart medications according to established policies and procedures.
• Identify and record patient’s response to medication when necessary.
• Care for specimens and cultures as directed by policies and procedures.
• Accompany patients to PACU and provide report to Post-Op Nurse.
• Assist in control and maintenance of supplies and equipment; record use of equipment as directed.
• Ensure a clean, safe environment through continued alertness to safety and aseptic techniques.
• Assist in controlling traffic and personnel to maintain infection control and asepsis.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program required; Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing preferred.
• Current RN License required in the state where the worksite is located.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Adult Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred.
• Previous nursing experience in at least one of the following settings preferred: Ambulatory Surgical Center (ASC), PACU, ICU, Medical Surgical, or Telemetry floors.
• One year of previous nursing experience in Operating Room, surgical, ambulatory surgical center (ASC), Pre/Post-Op, PACU, ICU, Medical Surgical, or Telemetry preferred.

• Reliable attendance, arriving on time with minimal absences and observing assigned work schedules.

Skills

• Knowledge of Amkai Office and Amkai Charts Database software.
• Familiarity with patient monitoring and emergency equipment.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Experience with printers, copiers, telephones, and fax machines.

Physical Requirements

• Frequent walking (75%), sitting (50%), and standing (50%).
• Regular bending, stooping, and reaching (25–50%).
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull items up to 25 lbs.
• Strong fine motor skills and full use of hands for constant grasping, writing/typing, and technology use.
• Visual and auditory acuity, including color, depth, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus (required 100% of the time).
• Occasional driving or climbing may be necessary.

Schedule

• Full-time position.
• Center hours: Monday–Friday, 6:00 AM–4:00 PM.
• Shift will fall within these hours; may need to work slightly earlier or later as needed.
• No late nights, weekends, holidays, or on-call shifts.
