Registered Nurse (RN), Pre-Operative/PACU/OR - Full Time

About the role

Assesses, plans, implements, evaluates and documents nursing care of patients in accordance with established Federal, State and accreditation standards and ASC policies and procedures. This position is accountable for the quality of nursing services delivered by self or others under his/her direction. Participates in direct patient care and maintains a clean, orderly and safe environment.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and direct patient care in an individual Operating Room, ensuring proper techniques and practices are used per accepted standards.
• Comply with HIPAA regulations and patient rights; perform duties ethically and legally within the scope of licensure.
• Supervise personnel in the room, assist as needed, and report unusual occurrences to charge personnel with appropriate documentation.
• Coordinate, communicate, and ensure continuity of patient care; assess, prioritize, plan, and implement care effectively.
• Maintain accurate and legible medical records; participate in continuing education, staff meetings, and Q.A.P.I. programs.
• Follow physician orders and management directions; assist in training new staff and developing a healthy work environment.
• Balance team and individual responsibilities; collaborate with other departments.
• Perform circulating duties, including maintaining counts of sponges, needles, and instruments; prepare operative areas and position patients.
• Open sterile packs and supplies using aseptic technique; assist surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other personnel as needed.
• Observe patients for condition changes; review surgeon preference cards and verify medications with the surgeon.
• Administer and chart medications according to policies; identify and record patient responses to medication when necessary.
• Care for specimens and cultures as directed; accompany patients to PACU and provide report to Post-Op Nurse.
• Assist in control and maintenance of supplies and equipment; ensure clean, safe environment through adherence to safety and aseptic techniques.
• Control traffic and personnel to maintain infection control and asepsis.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
• Current RN License required in the state where the worksite is located.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Adult Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred.
• Previous nursing experience in at least one of the following settings preferred: Ambulatory Surgical Center (ASC), PACU, ICU, Medical Surgical, or Telemetry floors.
• One year of experience in Operating Room, surgical, ASC, Pre/Post-Op, PACU, ICU, Medical Surgical, or Telemetry preferred.

Skills

• Knowledge of Amkai Office and Amkai Charts Database software.
• Familiarity with patient monitoring and emergency equipment.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Experience with printers, copiers, telephones, and fax machines.

Physical Requirements

• Frequent walking (75%), sitting (50%), and standing (50%).
• Regular bending, stooping, and reaching (25–50%).
• Lift, carry, push, or pull items up to 25 lbs.
• Strong fine motor skills; constant use of hands for grasping, writing, and typing.
• Visual and auditory acuity, including color, depth, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus (100% of the time).
• Occasional driving or climbing may be necessary.

Schedule

• Full-time position.
• Center hours: Monday–Friday, 6:00 AM–4:00 PM.
• Shift falls within these hours; may require working slightly earlier or later as needed.
• No late nights, weekends, holidays, or on-call shifts.
