Registered Nurse (RN), Pre-Operative/PACU/OR - Full Time

About the Role

Assesses, plans, implements, evaluates and documents nursing care of patients in accordance with established Federal, State and accreditation standards and ASC policies and procedures. This position is accountable for the quality of nursing services delivered by self or others under their direction. Participates in direct patient care and maintains a clean, orderly and safe environment.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and direct patient care in an individual Operating Room, ensuring proper techniques and practices are used per accepted standards.
• Comply with HIPAA regulations and patient rights; perform duties ethically and legally within the scope of the RN license.
• Supervise personnel in the room, assist as needed, and report unusual occurrences to charge personnel with appropriate documentation.
• Demonstrate primary nursing accountability through coordination, communication, and continuity of patient care.
• Assess, prioritize, plan, and implement patient care effectively; maintain accurate and legible medical records.
• Participate in continuing education, staff meetings, and quality assurance programs.
• Follow physician orders and management directions; assist in training new staff.
• Balance team and individual responsibilities; collaborate with other departments.
• Perform circulating duties, including maintaining counts of sponges, needles, and instruments; prepare operative areas and position patients.
• Open sterile packs and supplies using aseptic technique; assist surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other personnel as needed.
• Observe patients for changes in condition; review surgeon preference cards and verify medications.
• Administer and chart medications according to policies; record patient responses as necessary.
• Care for specimens and cultures per established procedures; accompany patients to PACU and provide report to post-op nurse.
• Assist in control and maintenance of supplies and equipment; ensure clean and safe environment through infection control and aseptic techniques.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
• Current RN License required in the state where the worksite is located.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Adult Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred.
• Previous nursing experience in at least one of the following settings preferred: Ambulatory Surgical Center (ASC), PACU, ICU, Medical Surgical, or Telemetry floors.
• One year of experience in Operating Room, surgical, ASC, Pre/Post-Op, PACU, ICU, Medical Surgical, or Telemetry preferred.

Skills

• Knowledge of Amkai Office and Amkai Charts Database software.
• Familiarity with patient monitoring and emergency equipment.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Experience with printers, copiers, telephones, and fax machines.

Physical Requirements

• Frequent walking (75%), sitting (50%), and standing (50%).
• Regular bending, stooping, and reaching (25–50%).
• Lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling items up to 25 lbs.
• Strong fine motor skills; constant use of hands for grasping, writing, and typing.
• Visual and auditory acuity, including color, depth, and peripheral vision, required 100% of the time.
• Occasional driving or climbing may be necessary.

Schedule

• Full-time position.
• Center hours: Monday–Friday, 6:00 AM–4:00 PM.
• Shift falls within these hours; occasional earlier or later work may be needed.
• No late nights, weekends, holidays, or on-call shifts.
