About the Role

As a Pre-Admission Testing (PAT) nurse, you will oversee patient intake, perform initial physical assessments, interview patients to obtain medical histories, conduct tests ordered by surgeons (e.g., EKGs), and may draw blood for lab work. Banner University Medical Center Phoenix is a Level 1 Trauma, Magnet-designated, and teaching hospital with 24 operating suites, including Hybrid, DaVinci, and MIS rooms. Specialties include General, Trauma, ENT, OMFS, Plastics, Ortho, Neuro, Robotics, Gyn, Urology, Ophthalmology, Vascular, Transplants, TAVR, Cardiac, Bariatric, and NICU. The hospital performs over 300 cases weekly.

Schedule

  • Full-time, 40 hours per week (4x10-hour shifts)
  • Shift: 0800–1830
  • Varied schedule, Monday–Friday
  • No call or weekend requirements
  • Shift differentials: $5/hour for call (flat rate), $3/hour for weekend shifts, and 18% for night shifts (when applicable)

Responsibilities

  • Assess patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs.
  • Review patient history and physical with patient/family; ensure completion within appropriate timeframes.
  • Review diagnostics, laboratory data, and report abnormal results to physicians and caregivers.
  • Complete assessments and reassessments per policy and patient need.
  • Formulate and implement a plan of care, including discharge planning, using assessment data and input from patients, families, and the healthcare team.
  • Set realistic, measurable goals in collaboration with patients/families, considering physical, cultural, psychosocial, spiritual, age-specific, and educational needs.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to review and revise care plans based on changing patient needs.
  • Provide direct patient care, coordinate and delegate care activities, and supervise licensed and unlicensed personnel.
  • Promote continuity of care through accurate and complete communication with other caregivers.
  • Evaluate patient and family responses to care and teaching; revise plans as needed.
  • Document assessments, planning, implementation, and evaluations in patient records legibly, timely, and per policy.
  • Provide evidence-based care and participate in research activities within clinical practice.
  • Participate in shared leadership, education, orientation, and mentoring of staff, patients, students, families, and visitors.
  • Contribute to national nursing quality indicators and outcomes through professional activities.
  • Interact with staff, physicians, patients, families, external agencies, and clergy to support patient care.
  • Synthesize and prioritize data from multiple sources to support patient and family responses to health status changes.

Requirements

  • Current, valid RN license in state of practice (temporary/interim or compact licensure accepted).
  • BLS certification required.
  • Additional certification or continuing education may be required based on area of practice.
  • Experience in the clinical area for which you are applying is desired.
  • Must maintain clinical performance competencies appropriate to the area of work.
  • For Banner Registry and Travel acute care positions: Minimum of one year of experience in an acute care hospital setting within the past 12 months in the specialty area.
  • For Banner Registry and Travel physician practice positions: Minimum of one year of experience as a Registered Nurse in a physician practice or acute care setting.
  • For Home Health settings: Valid driver’s license, active auto insurance, and ability to operate a personal vehicle.
  • For positions at Banner Behavioral Health Hospital, BTMC Behavioral, BUMG, BUMCT, or BUMCS serving children: Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card required at hire and maintained throughout employment; Arizona Criminal History Affidavit must be signed upon hire.
  • For Banner Home Care AZ: Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card required at hire and maintained throughout employment.
  • For Banner McKee Senior Behavioral Health Inpatient Unit: Colorado Fingerprint Clearance Card required at hire and maintained throughout employment.
  • For Banner Staffing (BSS) Behavioral Health roles in Arizona: State of Arizona Department of Public Safety Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card required at hire and maintained throughout employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
  • Professional certification in a relevant specialty.
