About the Role

Banner - University Medical Center Phoenix, a level 1 Trauma, Magnet-designated teaching hospital, holds its fourth consecutive Magnet status—an achievement reached by only 1% of hospitals nationwide. The main operating rooms feature 28 suites, including 2 Hybrid, 2 DaVinci, and MIS rooms, performing over 300 cases weekly across diverse specialties: General, Trauma, ENT, OMFS, Plastics, Ortho, Neuro, Robotics, Gyn, Urology, Ophthalmology, Vascular, Transplants, TAVR, Hearts, Bariatric, and NICU babies.

This full-time Operating Room RN position supports Ortho, OMFS, and Podiatry, with opportunities to assist in other service lines as needed. The preferred candidate will have prior OR circulating experience and completion of Periop 101.

Schedule

• Full-time, 36 hours per week (three 12-hour shifts: 6:30 AM – 7:00 PM, Monday–Friday)
• On-call requirement with weekend and holiday rotations
• Compensation: $5/hour flat rate for call, $3/hour weekend shift differential, and 18% night shift differential when applicable

Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and document nursing care in alignment with organizational policies and professional standards.
• Conduct patient assessments, including physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs.
• Review patient history, diagnostics, and laboratory data; report abnormalities to physicians and caregivers.
• Formulate and revise individualized care plans based on patient needs, multidisciplinary input, and evaluation of patient status.
• Implement care through direct patient interaction, coordination, delegation, and supervision of the healthcare team.
• Promote continuity of care through accurate communication with other caregivers.
• Evaluate patient and family responses to care and teaching; adjust plans as needed.
• Document all aspects of care (assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation) in the patient record per policy.
• Provide evidence-based care and participate in research activities within clinical practice.
• Engage in shared leadership, education, mentoring, and professional development activities.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, patients, families, and external contacts to optimize patient outcomes.
• Prioritize and synthesize data from multiple sources to support patient and family responses to health status changes.

Requirements

• Current, valid RN license in the state of practice (temporary/interim or compact licensure accepted).
• BLS certification required; additional certifications or continuing education may be required based on practice area.
• Clinical experience in the specialty area (Operating Room) is desired; acute care experience within the past 12 months is required for Banner Registry/Travel positions.
• Maintain clinical performance competencies through annual validations.
• For Home Health roles: Valid driver’s license, active auto insurance, and ability to operate a personal vehicle.
• For Behavioral Health roles serving children: Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card (maintained for duration of employment).
• For Banner Home Care AZ: Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card (maintained for duration of employment).
• For Banner Staffing Behavioral Health roles in Arizona: State of Arizona Department of Public Safety Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card (maintained for duration of employment).

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
• Professional certification in the specialty area.
• Additional related education and/or experience.
