This position is 100% onsite and requires you to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.

About the role

As an Operating Room Nurse, you will provide goal-directed nursing care adapted to the needs of individuals, families, and communities during health and illness. You will deliver care based on knowledge, skills, and standards of practice, assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care. Each professional nurse assumes primary responsibility and accountability for all nursing care provided by them and those under their supervision. You will collaborate as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize assessment skills to determine patient needs for comprehensive care across neonate to geriatric populations.
  • Identify learning needs of patients and their families to enhance recovery and develop teaching methods.
  • Implement nursing actions based on scheduled surgery, patient assessment, and developmental needs, incorporating them into a written plan of care.
  • Evaluate care and adjust nursing interventions to meet changing patient needs or conditions, documenting appropriately in patient records.
  • Successfully complete unit-based and hospital competencies as designated.
  • Competently perform nursing treatments and procedures according to hospital policy and specialty, as documented by clinical checklists.
  • Maintain current CPR certification.
  • Prepare and administer medication/treatment per physician’s orders, ensuring patient safety.
  • Collaborate with health team members to provide a holistic approach to care and communicate changes to all team members.
  • Document all aspects of patient care from admission to discharge according to hospital policies.
  • Incorporate discharge planning into daily practice for smooth transitions from hospital to home.
  • Provide cost-effective care through proper use of time, supplies, and personnel.
  • Actively participate in unit staff meetings and assist in developing/attaining unit goals and objectives.
  • Contribute to a positive work climate that encourages staff morale, motivation, and commitment.
  • Assume charge nurse responsibilities as assigned by the Clinical Director or designee.
  • Share leadership responsibilities by supervising, directing, and teaching other employees to ensure quality patient care.
  • Participate in unit activities and goals to promote staff retention.
  • Support and adapt to changes in the unit environment.
  • Demonstrate reliability and accountability to the unit and Department of Nursing.
  • Incorporate professional standards into practice using written nursing care plans.
  • Participate in Quality Improvement data analysis and implement determined changes.
  • Engage in the preceptor program, either as a preceptor or by assisting others.
  • Participate in weekly scheduled in-service training.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree in Nursing; BSN degree or higher preferred.
  • Associate Degree Nurses must enroll in a BSN program within six to nine months of hire and complete it within 30 months (100% tuition reimbursement provided for an accredited program).
  • Current RN Illinois license.
  • Graduate of an approved school of nursing.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least one year of experience circulating and/or scrubbing in an Orthopedic Operating Room.

Schedule

Full-Time, 1.0 FTE. Days, 10-hour shifts, 7:00 a.m.–5:30 p.m.

Work Location

Onsite - Hyde Park, CCD Operating Room (Ortho Team).
