Registered Nurse (RN) | Oncology Service Line
The pay range for this position is $27.75 - $46.25 per hour. Actual pay rate is dependent upon experience.
About the role
This position supports patients and teams across Avera Cancer Institute locations in South Dakota. The primary role is in infusion, but this position also backfills in clinic. Travel is required, with the primary location being the closest Avera Cancer Institute location to the applicant's home address. Travel may be required depending on need across Mitchell, Yankton, Pierre, Aberdeen, and Sioux Falls.
Responsibilities
- Reviews physician prescriptions and communicates the nursing care plan and all pertinent information to other members of the health care team.
- Counsels patients, families, and friends to understand condition, medications, and self-care skills.
- Evaluates patient care by adhering to therapeutic standards, measuring health outcomes against patient care standards, reviewing patient records, noting changing conditions and needs, re-evaluating care objectives, and modifying nursing care plan.
- Maintains a safe, secure, and healthy patient care environment by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.
- Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records.
- Keeps patient care equipment operating by following operating instructions and established procedures, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventative maintenance, and calling for repairs.
- Keeps patient care supplies ready by checking stock, anticipating needs, placing and expediting orders, verifying receipt, and stocking items.
Requirements
The individual must be able to work the hours specified. Must have a registered nurse (RN) - board of nursing active license in the state of practice. Must have an ONS Fundamentals Provider Card - Oncology Nursing Society within 60 days or ONS Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Provider Card - Oncology Nursing Society within 2 years of hire, whichever is later.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job function satisfactorily including having visual acuity adequate to perform position duties and the ability to communicate effectively with others, hear, understand and distinguish speech and other sounds.
