About the role

The New Graduate RN Residency Program at Banner Health has received the highest accreditation by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) as a Practice Transition Accreditation Program® (PTAP). Banner Health’s New Nurse Experience (NNE) provides a collaborative learning environment where you can refine your nursing skills, enhance your knowledge, and transition from a new graduate to a fully competent, professional nurse at Banner Health.

The Banner Health New Nurse Experience Program is a full-time Registered Nurse position that assists you in transitioning from a new graduate to a fully competent, professional nurse. This program provides a collaborative learning environment to refine nursing skills, enhance knowledge, and develop personal and professional relationships. Successful candidates will be placed in specific units at Banner Health facilities to be clinically mentored by unit staff and educators.

We offer multiple Career Pathways and development opportunities to achieve long-term career goals, including specialty units, leadership roles, non-bedside nursing opportunities, or other sectors of nursing. The expectation is to stay on the NNE unit for at least 12 months for a comprehensive training experience. New graduates must live within a reasonable commute distance of the facility they are hired into. Most new nurses will work three 12-hour shifts, including weekend and holiday rotations, with night shifts from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM.

Requirements

  • Recent or upcoming graduation from an accredited nursing program
  • Current BLS card (through either American Heart Association, Red Cross, or ASHI) or ability to obtain certification before start date
  • No more than 12 months of RN experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active RN license
  • Previous clinical healthcare experience
  • BSN preferred (open to ADN at select locations)

Unit Overview

The Progressive Care Unit is a 36-bed unit providing care to patients requiring continuous telemetry monitoring with diagnoses such as respiratory issues, renal issues, cardiac issues, alcohol/drug withdrawal, and infections.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and documents nursing care of patients in accordance with organizational policies and professional nursing practice standards.
  • Assesses patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs.
  • Reviews patient history and physical with patient/family and ensures completion within appropriate timeframe.
  • Reviews available information obtained by other health care team members and diagnostics/laboratory data, reporting abnormal results to physicians and caregivers.
  • Completes assessment and reassessments according to patient need and policy.
  • Formulates a plan of care, including discharge planning, utilizing assessment data and input from patient, family, and health team.
  • Initiates a plan of care based on patient-specific needs and medical plan, ensuring goals are realistic and measurable.
  • Considers physical, cultural, psychosocial, spiritual, age-specific, and educational needs in the plan of care.
  • Plans care in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team and revises it based on changing patient needs.
  • Implements the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of health care team activities.
  • Provides care based on physician orders and the nursing plan of care, complying with policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Delegates appropriately and provides nursing supervision for care provided by other licensed nurses and personnel.
  • Promotes continuity of care by accurately communicating patient status to other caregivers.
  • Evaluates patient and family response to care and teaching, revising the plan of care as needed.
  • Evaluates patient progress towards goals and expected outcomes in collaboration with the health care team.
  • Evaluates patient response and effectiveness of teaching.
  • Documents assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record, ensuring it is legible, timely, and compliant with policy.
  • Provides care based on best evidence available and may participate in research activities within clinical practice.
  • Participates in unit or facility shared leadership, education, role development, and orientation of personnel, patients, students, families, and visitors.
  • Promotes growth of others through precepting and mentoring when appropriate.
  • Contributes to society through activities leading to excellent patient outcomes.
  • Actively participates in improving national nursing quality indicators and outcomes, including participation in professional organizations.
  • Interacts with staff, physicians, patients, families, and external contacts to report or clarify information.
  • Works with clergy to provide spiritual support.
  • Synthesizes and prioritizes data from multiple sources to support patient and family responses to health status changes.

Qualifications

  • Current, valid RN license in state of practice, temporary/interim RN license, or compact RN licensure for current state of practice.
  • BLS certification required; additional certification or continuing education may be required based on area of practice.
  • Experience in the clinical area for which applying is desired.
  • Must maintain clinical performance competencies appropriate to the area of work as demonstrated through annual validations.
  • For Banner Registry and Travel acute care positions: minimum of one year experience in an acute care hospital setting within the past 12 months in the specialty area.
  • For Banner Registry and Travel physician practice positions: minimum of one year experience as a Registered Nurse in a physician practice or acute care setting.
  • In a Home Health setting: ability to operate a personal vehicle with a valid driver's license and active auto insurance.
  • For positions at Banner Behavioral Health Hospital, BTMC Behavioral, Banner Home Care/Hospice, or Boswell Skilled Nursing Facility: Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card required at hire and maintained during employment.
  • For positions at Banner MD Anderson on the Banner University Medical Center Phoenix campus: State of Arizona Department of Public Safety Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card required at hire and maintained during employment.
  • For positions at Banner McKee Senior Behavioral Health Inpatient Unit: Colorado Fingerprint Clearance Card required at hire and maintained during employment.
  • For Banner Staffing (BSS) Behavioral Health roles in Arizona: State of Arizona Department of Public Safety Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card required at hire and maintained during employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Professional certification preferred.
