About the role

The New Graduate RN Residency Program at Banner Health has received the highest accreditation by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) as a Practice Transition Accreditation Program® (PTAP). Banner Health’s New Nurse Experience (NNE) provides a collaborative learning environment where you can refine your nursing skills, enhance your knowledge, and transition from a new graduate to a fully competent, professional nurse at Banner Health.

This is a full-time Registered Nurse position that assists you in transitioning from a new graduate to a fully competent, professional nurse. Successful candidates will be placed in specific units at Banner Health facilities to be clinically mentored by unit staff and educators. We offer multiple Career Pathways and development opportunities to achieve your long-term career goals, including specialty units, leadership roles, and non-bedside nursing opportunities. The expectation is that you will stay on your NNE unit for at least 12 months to get a full and comprehensive training experience. Most new nurses will work three 12-hour shifts, which will include weekend and holiday rotations with other staff members.

Requirements

• Recent or upcoming graduation from an accredited nursing program
• BSN is preferred – open to ADN at select locations
• Current BLS card (through either American Heart Association, Red Cross, or ASHI) or ability to obtain certification before start date
• No more than 12 months of RN experience
• Previous healthcare experience is preferred
• Must live within a reasonable commute distance of the facility hired into
• Must possess a current, valid RN license in state of practice, temporary/interim RN license in state of practice, or compact RN licensure for current state of practice
• Must maintain clinical performance competencies appropriate to the area in which they work as demonstrated through annual validations

Unit Description

On our Medical Surgical PCU unit, we care for adult and geriatric patient populations with multiple co-morbidities. You will have an opportunity to work with a multitude of services such as but not limited to Cardiology, Infectious Disease, Pulmonology, Vascular Surgery, Internal Medicine, Psychiatry, Gastroenterology, Nephrology, and Hospitalists. You will work closely with WOCNs (Wound Ostomy Care Nurses), manage wound vacs, heparin drips, blood transfusions, NG Tubes, Dobhoff Tubes, and PEG Tubes.

Responsibilities

• Assesses patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs
• Reviews patient history and physical with patient/family and assures completion within appropriate timeframe
• Reviews available information obtained by other health care team members and diagnostics/laboratory data, reporting abnormal results to physicians and caregivers
• Completes assessment and reassessments according to patient need and policy
• Formulates a plan of care, including discharge plans, utilizing assessment data and input from patient, family, and health team
• Initiates a plan of care based on patient-specific needs and medical plan of care, ensuring goals are realistic and measurable
• Considers physical, cultural, psychosocial, spiritual, age-specific, and educational needs in the plan of care
• Plans care in collaboration with members of the multidisciplinary team and reviews/revises the plan based on changing patient needs
• Implements the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of health care team activities
• Provides care based on physician orders and the nursing plan of care, in compliance with policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
• Delegates appropriately and provides nursing supervision for care provided by other licensed nurses and personnel
• Promotes continuity of care by accurately communicating patient status to other caregivers
• Evaluates patient and family response to care and teaching, revising the plan of care as needed
• Evaluates patient progress towards goals and expected outcomes in collaboration with the health care team
• Documents assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record in a legible, timely manner
• Provides care based on best evidence available and may participate in research activities within clinical practice
• Participates in unit or facility shared leadership, education, role development, and orientation of personnel, patients, students, families, and visitors
• Promotes growth of others through precepting and mentoring when appropriate
• Actively participates in improving national nursing quality indicators and outcomes
• Interacts with staff, physicians, patients, families, and external contacts to report or clarify information
• Synthesizes and prioritizes data from multiple sources to support patient and family responses to health status changes

Qualifications

• Experience in the clinical area for which applying is desired
• Bachelor's degree preferred
• Professional certification preferred
