The New Graduate RN Residency Program at Banner Health has received the highest accreditation by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) as a Practice Transition Accreditation Program® (PTAP).

The Banner Health New Nurse Experience (NNE) is a full-time Registered Nurse position that assists you in transitioning from a new graduate to a fully competent, professional nurse. This program provides a collaborative learning environment where you can refine your nursing skills, enhance your knowledge, and develop new personal and professional relationships. Successful candidates will be placed in specific units at Banner Health facilities to be clinically mentored by unit staff and educators.

We offer multiple Career Pathways and development opportunities to achieve your long-term career goals, including specialty units, leadership roles, non-bedside nursing opportunities, or other sectors of nursing. The expectation is that you will stay on your NNE unit for at least 12 months to complete a full and comprehensive training experience. New Grads must live within a reasonable commute distance of the facility they are hired into. Most new nurses will work three 12-hour shifts, including weekend and holiday rotations with other staff members.

Requirements

• Recent graduation from an accredited nursing program
• Current and valid RN license
• BSN is preferred — open to ADN at select locations
• Current BLS card (through either American Heart Association, Red Cross, or ASHI) or ability to obtain certification before start date
• No more than 12 months of RN experience
• Previous healthcare experience is preferred

Unit Description

4 North (4N) is a vibrant and fast-paced 32-bed progressive care unit offering a unique combination of medical and surgical areas. This unit cares for a variable population of patients, including those recovering from cardiac events, strokes, and diabetic ketosis, as well as post-surgical patients from specialties such as ortho, urology, and general surgery.

Responsibilities

• Assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and documents nursing care of patients in accordance with organizational policies and professional nursing practice standards.
• Assesses patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs.
• Reviews patient history, diagnostics, and laboratory data; reports abnormal results to physicians and caregivers.
• Formulates and initiates a plan of care based on patient-specific needs, assessment data, and the medical plan of care.
• Implements the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of health care team activities.
• Evaluates patient and family response to care and teaching; revises the plan of care as needed.
• Documents assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record in a timely, legible, and accurate manner.
• Provides care based on best evidence available and participates in research activities within clinical practice.
• Participates in unit or facility shared leadership, education, role development, and orientation of personnel, patients, students, families, and visitors.
• Contributes to society through activities that lead to excellent patient outcomes.
• Interacts with staff, physicians, patients, families, and external contacts to support patient care.
• Synthesizes and prioritizes data from multiple sources to support patient and family responses to health status changes.

Qualifications

• Current, valid RN license in state of practice, temporary/interim RN license, or compact RN licensure for current state of practice.
• BLS certification required; additional certification or continuing education may be required based on area of practice.
• Experience in the clinical area for which you are applying is desired.
• Must maintain clinical performance competencies appropriate to the area of work.
• Banner Registry and Travel acute care positions require a minimum of one year of experience in an acute care hospital setting within the past 12 months.
• For Home Health settings, must be able to operate a personal vehicle and possess a valid driver’s license with active auto insurance.
• Employees at Banner Behavioral Health Hospital, BTMC Behavioral, Banner Home Care/Hospice, or Boswell Skilled Nursing Facility must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card.
• Employees at Banner MD Anderson (Banner University Medical Center Phoenix) must possess a State of Arizona Department of Public Safety Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card.
• Employees at Banner McKee Senior Behavioral Health Inpatient Unit must possess a Colorado Fingerprint Clearance Card.
• Employees in any Banner Staffing (BSS) Behavioral Health role in Arizona must possess a State of Arizona Department of Public Safety Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Professional certification preferred.
