About the role

Banner Health’s New Graduate RN Residency Program is a full-time Registered Nurse position that assists you in transitioning from a new graduate to a fully competent, professional nurse. This accredited program provides a collaborative learning environment where you can refine your nursing skills, enhance your knowledge, and develop new personal and professional relationships. Successful candidates will be placed in specific units at Banner Health facilities to be clinically mentored by unit staff and educators.

We offer multiple Career Pathways and development opportunities to achieve your long-term career goals, including specialty units, leadership roles, and non-bedside nursing opportunities. The expectation is that you will stay on your assigned unit for at least 12 months to complete a full and comprehensive training experience. New graduates must live within a reasonable commute distance of the facility they are hired into.

Requirements

• Recent or upcoming graduation from an accredited nursing program
• BSN is preferred; ADN accepted at select locations
• Current BLS card (through American Heart Association, Red Cross, or ASHI) or ability to obtain certification before start date
• No more than 12 months of RN experience
• Previous healthcare experience is preferred
• Must apply with a personal email rather than a school email address
• Must possess a current, valid RN license in state of practice, temporary/interim RN license in state of practice, or compact RN licensure for current state of practice
• Must maintain clinical performance competencies appropriate to the area in which they work as demonstrated through annual validations

Additional requirements for specific settings:

• Banner Registry and Travel acute care positions require a minimum of one year of experience in an acute care hospital setting within the past 12 months as a Registered Nurse in the specialty area
• Banner Registry and Travel physician practice positions require a minimum of one year of experience as a Registered Nurse in a physician practice or acute care setting
• In a Home Health setting, team members must be able to operate a personal vehicle and possess a valid driver's license with active auto insurance coverage
• Employees working at Banner Behavioral Health Hospital, BTMC Behavioral, and BUMG, BUMCT, or BUMCS in a Behavioral Health clinical setting that serves children must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain it for the duration of employment; an Arizona Criminal History Affidavit must be signed upon hire
• Employees working for Banner Home Care AZ must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain it for the duration of employment
• Employees working in the Banner McKee Senior Behavioral Health Inpatient Unit must possess a Colorado Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain it for the duration of employment
• Employees working in any Banner Staffing (BSS) Behavioral Health role in Arizona must possess a State of Arizona Department of Public Safety Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain it for the duration of employment

Responsibilities

• Assess patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs
• Review patient history and physical with patient/family and ensure completion within appropriate timeframe
• Review available information obtained by other health care team members and diagnostics/laboratory data; report abnormal results to physicians and appropriate caregivers
• Complete assessment and reassessments according to patient need and policy
• Formulate a plan of care, including discharge planning, utilizing assessment data and input from patient, family, and health team
• Initiate a plan of care based on patient-specific needs, assessment data, and the medical plan of care; ensure goals are realistic, measurable, and developed in conjunction with the patient/family
• Consider physical, cultural, psychosocial, spiritual, age-specific, and educational needs of the patient in the plan of care
• Plan care in collaboration with members of the multidisciplinary team; review and revise the plan of care to reflect changing patient needs
• Implement the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of health care team activities
• Provide care based on physician orders and the nursing plan of care, in compliance with policies, procedures, standards of care, and regulatory requirements
• Delegate appropriately and provide nursing supervision in the provision of care to patients by other licensed nurses and personnel
• Promote continuity of care by accurately and completely communicating patient status to other caregivers
• Evaluate the patient's and family's response to care and teaching; revise the plan of care as needed
• Evaluate patient progress towards goals and expected outcomes in collaboration with other health care team members
• Document assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record; ensure documentation is legible, timely, and reflects objective/subjective data, nursing interventions, and patient response to treatment
• Provide care based on the best evidence available and participate in research activities within clinical practice
• Participate in unit or facility shared leadership, education, role development, and orientation of personnel, patients, students, families, and visitors
• Promote and support the growth of others through precepting and mentoring when appropriate
• Contribute to society through activities that lead to excellent patient outcomes through timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and safe care
• Actively participate in the improvement of national nursing quality indicators and outcomes, such as through professional organizations
• Interact with all levels of staff, physicians, patients, families, and external contacts concerning patient care
• Synthesize and prioritize data from multiple sources to support the human response of the patient and family to changes in health status

Unit Descriptions

4 South: A 40-bed unit offering care to a wide variety of patients, including post-surgical and medical patients with multiple comorbidities. The unit is connected to the Behavioral Health Pavilion, so RNs also care for psychiatric patients requiring medical treatment. This unit promotes a positive work culture, teamwork, and work-life balance. It features a mix of new graduate and experienced RNs, providing strong support for new team members. BUMCS is working toward Magnet, Level 3 Trauma, and Primary Stroke designation.

5 South West: A brand-new 17-bed unit offering care to a wide variety of Medical Surgical and Progressive Care patients. This unit provides the unique opportunity to be part of creating and growing a unit from the ground up. Patients may have multiple comorbidities, including sepsis, wound infections, respiratory conditions, and mental health needs. RNs will learn something new each day and be part of a close-knit interdisciplinary team.
