Registered Nurse RN New Graduate General Medical Surgical

Banner Health’s New Nurse Experience (NNE) is a full-time Registered Nurse residency program accredited by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) as a Practice Transition Accreditation Program® (PTAP). The program assists new graduates in transitioning to fully competent, professional nurses through a collaborative learning environment that refines nursing skills, enhances knowledge, and fosters personal and professional relationships.

Successful candidates will be placed in specific units at Banner Health facilities for clinical mentorship by unit staff and educators. Multiple career pathways and development opportunities are available to help achieve long-term career goals, including specialty units, leadership roles, and non-bedside nursing opportunities. Participants are expected to stay on their assigned unit for at least 12 months to complete a comprehensive training experience and must live within a reasonable commute distance of their facility. Most new nurses work three 12-hour shifts, including weekend and holiday rotations.

Requirements

• Recent or upcoming graduation from an accredited nursing program (BSN preferred; ADN accepted at select locations)
• Current BLS card (American Heart Association, Red Cross, or ASHI) or ability to obtain certification before start date
• No more than 12 months of RN experience
• Previous healthcare experience preferred

About this Unit

As an Adult Acute Care – General Post-Surgical RN at Banner Desert Medical Center, a Level 1 Trauma designated hospital, you will care for a variety of surgical patients, including those undergoing incision and debridement, cholecystectomy, appendectomy, hysterectomy, and urological surgeries. This fast-paced unit offers opportunities to develop a wide range of nursing skills and grow your career. The team includes passionate leaders, providers, and staff dedicated to patient care and professional development. Night shifts are available from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM.

• Active RN license or licensure within the next 30 days

Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and document nursing care in accordance with organizational policies and professional nursing standards.
• Assess patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs.
• Review patient history, diagnostics, and laboratory data; report abnormal results to physicians and caregivers.
• Formulate and revise a plan of care based on assessment data, patient/family input, and multidisciplinary collaboration.
• Implement care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of the healthcare team.
• Evaluate patient and family responses to care and teaching; adjust the plan of care as needed.
• Document assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record accurately and timely.
• Provide care based on evidence and participate in research activities within clinical practice.
• Participate in shared leadership, education, orientation, and mentoring of staff, students, and families.
• Contribute to national nursing quality indicators and outcomes through professional activities.
• Interact with staff, physicians, patients, families, and external contacts to support patient care.
• Synthesize and prioritize data from multiple sources to support patient and family responses to health changes.

Qualifications

• Current, valid RN license in state of practice, temporary/interim RN license, or compact RN licensure.
• BLS certification required; additional certifications may be required based on area of practice.
• Experience in the clinical area for which you are applying is desired.
• Must maintain clinical performance competencies through annual validations.
• For Banner Registry and Travel positions: minimum one year of acute care experience in the specialty area within the past 12 months.
• For Home Health: valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and ability to operate a personal vehicle.
• For Behavioral Health roles serving children: Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card required at hire and maintained throughout employment; Arizona Criminal History Affidavit signed upon hire.
• For Banner Home Care AZ: Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card required at hire and maintained throughout employment.
• For Banner McKee Senior Behavioral Health Inpatient Unit: Colorado Fingerprint Clearance Card required at hire and maintained throughout employment.
