About the role

The New Graduate RN Residency Program at Banner Health has received the highest accreditation by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) as a Practice Transition Accreditation Program® (PTAP). Banner Health’s New Nurse Experience (NNE) provides a collaborative learning environment where you can refine your nursing skills, enhance your knowledge, and transition from a new graduate to a fully competent, professional nurse at Banner Health.

This is a full-time Registered Nurse position that assists you in transitioning from a new graduate to a fully competent, professional nurse. Successful candidates will be placed in specific units at Banner Health facilities to be clinically mentored by unit staff and educators. We offer multiple Career Pathways and development opportunities to achieve your long-term career goals. The expectation is that you will stay on your NNE unit for at least 12 months to get a full and comprehensive training experience. Most new nurses will work three 12-hour shifts, which will include weekend and holiday rotations with other staff members.

Requirements

• Recent or upcoming graduation (within 60 days) from an accredited nursing program
• BSN is preferred - open to ADN at select locations
• Current BLS card (through American Heart Association, Red Cross, or ASHI) or ability to obtain certification before a start date
• No more than 12 months of RN experience
• Previous healthcare experience is preferred
• Must live within a reasonable commute distance of the facility hired into

Unit Overview

The Emergency Department at Banner - University Medical Center Tucson campus is an 80-bed unit, seeing approximately 73,000 patients a year. We care for all ages and treat urgent and emergent medical and behavioral health patients. The ED is a designated Level 1 Adult Trauma Center, as well as a Comprehensive stroke, cancer, and cardiac center. We have been nationally recognized for providing exceptional patient care, teaching future health care professionals, and conducting groundbreaking research.

In addition to our Adult Emergency Department, we have a Pediatric Emergency Department. We are an accredited Pediatric Prepared Advanced Care facility and a Level 2 Pediatric Trauma Center. We have a 16-bed pod housed in the northernmost area of the main Emergency Department. During busier times of the year, we also run a pediatric fast track with a mid-level provider and nurse. We have Child Life services available Monday-Friday and depend on our Pediatric ER nurses to provide the highest level of specialized care to our pediatric population.

We have day shift (7am - 7:30pm) and night shift (7pm-7:30am) positions available.

Responsibilities

• Assesses patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs.
• Reviews patient history and physical with patient/family and assures completion within appropriate timeframe.
• Reviews available information obtained by other health care team members and diagnostics/laboratory data, reporting abnormal results to the physician(s) and other appropriate caregivers.
• Completes assessment and reassessments according to patient need and as outlined in policy.
• Formulates a plan of care, including the discharge plan, utilizing assessment data and patient, family, and health team input.
• Initiates a plan of care based on patient-specific needs, assessment data, and the medical plan of care.
• Sets realistic, measurable goals for the patient in conjunction with the patient/family.
• Considers the physical, cultural, psychosocial, spiritual, age-specific, and educational needs of the patient in the plan of care.
• Plans care in collaboration with members of the multidisciplinary team and reviews/revises the plan to reflect changing patient needs.
• Implements the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of the activities of the health care team.
• Provides care based on physician orders and the nursing plan of care, in compliance with policies and procedures, standards of care, and regulatory agency requirements.
• Delegates appropriately and provides nursing supervision in the provision of care to patients by other licensed nurses and personnel.
• Promotes continuity of care by accurately and completely communicating to other caregivers the status of patients.
• Evaluates the patient's and family's response to care and teaching, revising the plan of care as needed.
• Evaluates patient progress towards goals and expected outcomes in collaboration with other health care team members.
• Evaluates patient's response and the effectiveness of patient teaching.
• Documents assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record in a legible, timely, and accurate manner.
• Provides care based on the best evidence available and may participate in research activities within clinical practice.
• Participates in unit or facility shared leadership, education, role development, and orientation of facility personnel, patients, students, families, and visitors.
• Promotes/supports growth of others through precepting and mentoring when appropriate.
• Contributes to society through activities that lead to excellent patient outcomes.
• Actively participates in the improvement of national nursing quality indicators and outcomes.
• Interacts with all levels of staff, physicians, patients, families, and external contacts concerning the health care of the patient.
• Synthesizes and prioritizes data from multiple sources to provide support for the human response of the patient and family to changes in health status.

Qualifications

• Must possess a current, valid RN license in state of practice, temporary/interim RN license in state of practice, or compact RN licensure for current state of practice.
• BLS certification is required.
• Additional certification or continuing education may be required based on area of practice.
• Experience in the clinical area for which he or she is applying is desired.
• Must maintain clinical performance competencies appropriate to the area in which they work as demonstrated through annual validations.
• Banner Registry and Travel acute care positions require a minimum of one year experience in an acute care hospital setting within the past 12 months as a Registered Nurse in the specialty area.
• Banner Registry and Travel physician practice positions require a minimum of one year experience as a Registered Nurse in a physician practice or an acute care setting.
• In a Home Health setting, must be able to operate a personal vehicle and possess a valid driver's license with active auto insurance coverage.

Employees working at specific Banner Health facilities may require an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card, State of Arizona Department of Public Safety Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card, or Colorado Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and must maintain it for the duration of their employment.
