About the role

The New Graduate RN Residency Program at Banner Health is a full-time Registered Nurse position designed to assist you in transitioning from a new graduate to a fully competent, professional nurse. This program provides a collaborative learning environment where you can refine your nursing skills, enhance your knowledge, and develop new personal and professional relationships. Successful candidates will be placed in specific units at Banner Health facilities to be clinically mentored by unit staff and educators.

We offer multiple Career Pathways and development opportunities to help you achieve your long-term career goals, whether in specialty units, leadership roles, non-bedside nursing, or other sectors. The expectation is that you will stay on your assigned unit for at least 12 months to gain a comprehensive training experience. Most new nurses work three 12-hour shifts, including weekend and holiday rotations.

Requirements

• Recent or upcoming graduation from an accredited nursing program (BSN preferred; ADN accepted at select locations)
• Current BLS card (through American Heart Association, Red Cross, or ASHI) or ability to obtain certification before start date
• No more than 12 months of RN experience
• Previous healthcare experience preferred
• Must possess a current, valid RN license in state of practice, temporary/interim RN license, or compact RN licensure
• Must live within a reasonable commute distance of the assigned facility

Unit Description

Orthopedic Medical Surgical D2N is a state-of-the-art 24-bed inpatient unit specializing in the care of orthopedic patients, including pre- and post-op surgical care for a wide range of cases, from total joint replacements to fractures.

Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and document nursing care in accordance with organizational policies and professional nursing standards
• Assess patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs
• Review patient history, diagnostics, and laboratory data; report abnormal results to physicians and caregivers
• Formulate and implement a plan of care, including discharge planning, utilizing assessment data and input from patients, families, and the healthcare team
• Delegate and supervise care provided by other licensed nurses and personnel
• Evaluate patient and family responses to care and teaching; revise the plan of care as needed
• Document assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record
• Participate in shared leadership, education, orientation, and mentoring activities
• Contribute to improving nursing quality indicators and outcomes
• Interact with multidisciplinary teams, patients, families, and external contacts to ensure coordinated care

Qualifications

• Experience in the clinical area for which you are applying is desired
• Must maintain clinical performance competencies appropriate to the area of practice
• Bachelor’s degree preferred
• Professional certification preferred

Additional requirements for specific settings:

• Banner Registry and Travel acute care positions require at least one year of experience in an acute care hospital setting within the past 12 months
• Home Health team members must operate a personal vehicle and maintain valid auto insurance
• Employees in behavioral health settings serving children must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card
• Employees at Banner MD Anderson (Phoenix) must possess a State of Arizona Department of Public Safety Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card
• Employees at Banner McKee Senior Behavioral Health Inpatient Unit must possess a Colorado Fingerprint Clearance Card
• Employees in Banner Staffing Behavioral Health roles in Arizona must possess a State of Arizona Department of Public Safety Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card
