About the role
Sentara is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) for the Mother-Baby Unit at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia. A sign-on bonus of up to $20,000 is offered for qualified candidates. This is a full-time, night-shift position (7a-7p).
Sentara Norfolk General Hospital's Postpartum Mother-Baby Unit is a 30-bed unit where nurses assess new mothers, ensure proper healing, and provide self-care education during the postpartum stay. The unit encourages rooming-in, and nurses also assess, care for, and educate new mothers on proper infant care.
The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for performing a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the nursing process, encompassing assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care, teaching, health promotion, and evaluation. The RN adheres to standards of professional performance, including ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health.
Responsibilities
- Assess new mothers and ensure proper healing during postpartum stay.
- Provide self-care education to new mothers.
- Assess, clean, feed, and swaddle newborns.
- Educate new mothers on proper infant care.
- Apply the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care, teaching, health promotion, and evaluation) in clinical practice.
- Adhere to professional performance standards, including ethics, communication, collaboration, leadership, and evidence-based practice.
Requirements
- Virginia RN License (REQUIRED).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification (required within 90 days of hire).
- RN degree (REQUIRED).
Qualifications
- Prior Women's Health RN experience (PREFERRED).
