Registered Nurse (RN) - Medical And Telemetry

About the Unit

9LM is a 23-bed medical telemetry floor caring for adult patients (18–100+ years) with multiple medical conditions, including COVID, COPD, Pneumonia, Congestive Heart Failure, Diabetes, Renal Failure, and Alcohol/Opioid Withdrawal. You will manage telemetry monitoring, wound care, Foley catheters, rectal tubes, titrating medications (e.g., Protonix, Insulin, Cardizem, Lasix), and apply care of the elderly (ACE) principles. We are a fast-paced medical unit partnering with Hospitalist Physicians, emphasizing teamwork and professional growth.

Responsibilities

• Use the nursing process to assess patient needs, plan and implement individualized interventions, and evaluate the effectiveness of care, involving the patient and family in planning and maintaining a therapeutic relationship.
• Anticipate and recognize significant changes in patient condition, status, and care needs; take appropriate actions and adjust the plan of care as needed, mobilizing resources and collaborating with the healthcare team.
• Implement strategies to reduce patient risk and increase safety; assess patient and family readiness to learn and individualize teaching approaches.
• Actively coordinate the discharge plan using an interdisciplinary approach.
• Apply evidence-based practice in patient care, incorporating nursing and regulatory standards.
• Evaluate patient, team, and unit outcomes continuously and take action to improve processes and patient outcomes; support shared governance activities.
• Demonstrate effective communication, feedback, and conflict resolution skills; promote collaboration among healthcare team members and assume leadership in delegating to unlicensed personnel.
• Promote a culture of safety by identifying threats, intervening to prevent harm, and reporting safety events or near misses; assist in implementing corrective actions.
• Apply ethical decision-making, demonstrate respect for peers and other disciplines, and participate as an effective team member to provide unbiased, individualized care.
• Participate in quality and process improvement initiatives to enhance department functions and the patient care experience.
• Engage in professional development activities, seek mentorship, attend required meetings, and complete annual competencies.
• Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care, assessing data reflective of the patient’s status and interpreting information to meet their needs.

Requirements

• Registered Nurse license issued by the state of practice.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA).
• Completion of an accredited or approved nursing program.
• Typically requires 1 year of clinical nursing experience.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

• Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach above shoulders, and twist frequently throughout the workday.
• Lifting requirements:
  • Up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist.
  • Up to 20 lbs. overhead.
  • Carry up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance.
• Must be able to push/pull with 30 lbs. of force and perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with assistance.
• Use of foot pedals on carts or machines.
• Potential exposure to chemical and hazardous waste, blood and body fluids, and communicable diseases; protective clothing and equipment required as necessary.
• Functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch; ability to use fine hand manipulation for IV insertion and other procedures.
• Operates all necessary equipment to perform the job.
