Registered Nurse (RN) Med Surg Telemetry

About the role

Sentara Obici Hospital is hiring a Registered Nurse for 2 South—Acute Cardiac/Stroke Unit. This is a full-time night-shift position (7 PM to 7 AM) with a rotating weekend schedule. A sign-on bonus up to $20,000 is available for qualified candidates.

Responsibilities

• Provide competent nursing care using the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care, teaching, health promotion, and evaluation).
• Adhere to professional performance standards including ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice, quality, resource utilization, and environmental health.
• Care for patients with cardiac conditions (heart failure, rhythm disturbances, post–coronary interventions, post-ablation, myocardial infarctions, newly implanted devices).
• Manage pre-/post-catheterization, acute stroke, and post-procedural neuro cases.
• Work within a 1:6 nurse-to-patient ratio with Patient Care Tech support on a 25-bed unit with higher-than-medical-surgical acuity.
• Participate in the transition to a Cardiac Progressive Care step-down unit.

Qualifications

• Degree or diploma from an accredited Registered Nursing program.
• Students in the process of completing an accredited nursing program are eligible.
• Current or pending RN license; BLS within 90 days of hire.
• ACLS within 1 year of hire; NIH stroke certification within 1 year of hire.
• Acute care nursing experience preferred; background in stroke or telemetry preferred.
