Position Purpose

The Postpartum/Maternity unit at Saint Francis Hospital consists of 29 private rooms for postpartum, newborn, antepartum, and gynecology patients. Maternity nurses provide care to women who are pregnant, recently gave birth, newborns, or those who have had gynecological surgery. They offer emotional support, education on best practices, monitor patients for signs of illness or complications, and communicate effectively with various stakeholders.

What You Will Do

• Provide emotional support and guidance to new mothers
• Educate parents on best practices for feeding, bathing, and sleeping
• Support breastfeeding
• Maintain vigilance for signs of illness or complications in women and newborns
• Contribute to the quality of nursing care through performance improvement techniques
• Communicate effectively (both written and verbal) with administrators, colleagues, patients, and family members
• Inform patients and family members about their care in a clear and understandable manner

Minimum Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited college or university affiliated nursing program
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
• Current Licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in Connecticut
• BLS CPR and ACLS certification preferred
• Two years' experience for per diem positions preferred
