Registered Nurse (RN) - Labor & Delivery
Fairview is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) for the Labor & Delivery Unit at St. John’s Hospital in Maplewood, MN. St. John’s Hospital provides a warm, inviting atmosphere with innovative technology and expert staff, contributing to a healing environment and personal healthcare delivery.
About This Unit
Our unit offers 29 LDRP (labor, delivery, recovery & post-partum) beds plus 2 triage rooms, including 1 water birth room and 2 OR suites. We provide single-room care, allowing patients to remain in the same room throughout their stay. The unit averages 200+ deliveries per month and manages many outpatients daily for antenatal testing. Daily census is 18 mom and baby couplets. Our newly remodeled NICU has expanded care to higher-risk patients (28 weeks gestational age).
Schedule
This position is 56 hours per two weeks on the Night shift, with 8-hour shifts and an every-other-weekend rotation.

Responsibilities
- Serve as the key leader of the interdependent team, coordinating care for a group of patients.
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of patient and family needs, identify outcomes, establish and monitor the plan of care, and modify as needed.
- Demonstrate dedication to the patient care model (Professional Partnership Model) and Fairview’s nursing vision and strategy.
- Apply the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation) to coordinate outcome-focused patient care.
- Incorporate holistic nursing theory based on Watson’s Theory of Caring, aligning with the practice standards of the American Holistic Nurses’ Association when holistic therapy is offered.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians, the interdependent team, and other disciplines regarding the plan of care.
- Assess and document learning needs of patients and families, developing individualized education plans.
- Actively participate in improving care at the point of service to achieve clinical quality, customer experience, nursing engagement, and efficiency outcomes.
- Comply with regulatory, accreditation, and patient safety requirements, as well as infection control practices and other established policies and procedures.
- Coordinate the interdependent team while promoting collaborative teamwork.
- Actively participate in the development and achievement of department goals (safety, cost, quality, patient experience, employee engagement).
Requirements
- 1 year of Labor & Delivery/Postpartum experience.
- Experienced nurse pursuing an advanced practice degree in perinatal care.
- New graduates with a final rotation in labor and delivery or postpartum will be considered.
- Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Valid RN License from the MN Board of Nursing.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
- 1 to 3 years of experience.
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) trained.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (American Heart Association). Some positions may require ACLS depending on the unit and patient population.
