How You'll Help

As a registered nurse, you are expected to consistently deliver the best in care and customer service and demonstrate respect, dignity, kindness and empathy in each encounter with our patients, their families, visitors, and with each other. As part of the health care team, RNs assume primary accountability for nursing coordination and provision of individualized care for patients of all ages.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care to achieve optimum patient outcomes for patients of all ages as appropriate to service area.
  • Complete age-specific admission and ongoing assessments, document, and use them to develop a plan of care.
  • Collaborate with members of the health care team, patient, and family to develop, implement, and evaluate an age-specific interdisciplinary plan of care; revise plan according to changes in patient status.
  • Accurately administer and document treatments and medications for patients of all ages utilizing automated computer systems, including electronic medical records.
  • Identify patient/family (caregiver) educational needs in a timely manner, incorporate into the plan of care, implement, and document appropriately.
  • Contribute to performance improvement activities.
  • Consistently demonstrate the role of patient advocate, protector of patient’s rights, and provider of psychological/social/cultural support.
  • Apply knowledge of growth and development to appropriately care for patients served.
  • Determine and perform within clinical, leadership, and/or education pathways to support (direct/indirect) evidence-based, quality patient care service and performance improvement.
  • Exhibit clinical expertise in rapidly changing circumstances.
  • Plan strategies to reduce length of stay, turnaround time, resource consumption, and improve patient outcomes.
  • Function as a role model for clinical practice to coworkers, students, and physicians.
  • Manage resources, establish priorities, and modify the environment to meet patient care needs.
  • Complete manager/director predetermined projects within specified time frame and according to pre-established guidelines.
  • Use problem-solving methods to facilitate resolution to patient and personnel situations that present in the work area.
  • Take an active role in the orientation of new employees.
  • Provide feedback to staff using appropriate communication and documentation.
  • Provide input into practice, environment, and work issues by participating in unit, hospital, and/or system activities which facilitate staff participation/input in decision making.
  • Assist with providing education activities for unit/department.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a school of professional nursing of an accredited college or graduate of an approved program eligible to sit for the VA licensure exam.
  • Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in Virginia or eligible to obtain Virginia RN licensure.
  • AHA BLS-HCP required. May be required to obtain/maintain BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP based on specific work unit.
  • Computer skills required for electronic medical record (EPIC).

Pay

Compensation Range: $33.52 - $50.28 per hour. Employee pay is based on a variety of factors, including qualifications, credentials, education, and prior work experience. The compensation range does not include benefits or pension plan.
