Registered Nurse (RN) - ICU Nights - Mary Black

Sign-on bonus: $5,000 for experienced RNs; $10,000 for new graduates.

About the role

Full-time night shift (7pm – 7am) in an 18-bed Intensive Care Unit that uses Omnicell, Epic, and Mindray monitoring technology. Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:2 or 1:3 based on acuity. The unit handles medical and surgical ICU cases, including single-system organ failure, diabetic ketoacidosis, sepsis, CHF, and COPD. The team is known for strong clinical skills and excellent camaraderie.

Responsibilities

• Provide inpatient nursing care in compliance with the SC Nurse Practice Act and organizational protocols.
• Demonstrate clinical competency using evidence-based practices across the nursing process: assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and outcomes.
• Document all aspects of patient care in the electronic health record, following established charting procedures.
• Adhere to system standards of behavior, proper chain of command, and regulatory agency requirements (DNV, DHEC, CMS).
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, providers, and hospital staff.
• Respond appropriately to facility alerts, medical alerts, and emergency systems.
• Develop, implement, evaluate, and revise patient plans of care based on physical, psychosocial, spiritual, and educational needs.
• Ensure a safe patient care environment.
• Collaborate with patients, families, and the healthcare team to determine priorities and treatments.
• Coordinate and provide patient teaching activities.
• Initiate and facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration to enhance outcomes.
• Seek assistance to complete nursing interventions and ensure positive patient outcomes.
• Demonstrate competencies for new equipment, procedures, and annual competency validation.
• Complete hospital and unit-based orientation programs and annual competencies.
• Formulate a plan for personal professional growth.
• Recommend policy and procedure revisions as needed.
• Serve on unit-based committees as assigned.
• Prioritize nursing interventions for an assigned group of patients.
• Critically assess patients’ medical history, admitting diagnosis, physician orders, nursing history, physical assessment, and diagnostic data to determine needs.
• Assess and prioritize multiple patients based on severity of illness, injury, or needs.
• Provide quality patient care in a fast-paced, dynamic environment using critical thinking.
• Interact professionally with patients of all age groups, backgrounds, and educational levels, including those who may be confused, irrational, agitated, or uncooperative.
• Manage and stabilize emergencies using nursing standards and protocols until the provider responds.
• Demonstrate knowledge of professional nursing practice and theory.
• Ensure continuity of care through effective decision-making.
• Support unit, department, and division goals, as well as patient experience initiatives.
• Participate in purposeful rounding, bedside shift reports, and huddles.
• Comply with current policies, procedures, and other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Graduate of an approved/accredited School of Nursing.
• Current RN licensure in the State of South Carolina or a Compact State.
• BLS certification (may secure post-hire).

Preferred Qualifications

• One year of recent RN experience within the past five years.
