This is a busy 26-bed Medical Intensive Care Unit with some of the highest APACHE scores in the Banner system. The patient population frequently includes diagnoses such as sepsis, respiratory failure, stroke, trauma, and DKA.
As a Critical Care RN in the ICU, you will work three 12-hour day shifts per week from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM. You will have the opportunity to utilize our self-scheduling tool for shift and weekend coverage. Enjoy a flat rate $3/hour weekend shift differential when applicable.
Banner Baywood Medical Center is a 342-bed hospital serving the East Valley communities of metropolitan Phoenix. We provide complete acute care and outpatient services, including cancer, stroke, women’s health, rehabilitation, emergency medicine, and surgery. Responsibilities
- Assess patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs.
- Review patient history and physical with patient/family, ensuring completion within appropriate timeframes.
- Review diagnostics and laboratory data, reporting abnormal results to physicians and caregivers.
- Complete assessment and reassessments according to patient need and policy.
- Formulate a plan of care, including discharge planning, utilizing assessment data and input from patients, families, and the health team.
- Initiate a plan of care based on patient-specific needs, ensuring goals are realistic and measurable.
- Consider physical, cultural, psychosocial, spiritual, age-specific, and educational needs in the plan of care.
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to plan and review care.
- Revise the plan of care to reflect changing patient needs based on evaluation.
- Implement the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of the health care team.
- Provide care based on physician orders and the nursing plan of care, complying with policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Delegate appropriately and provide nursing supervision for care provided by other licensed nurses and personnel.
- Promote continuity of care by accurately communicating patient status to other caregivers.
- Evaluate patient and family response to care and teaching, revising the plan of care as needed.
- Evaluate patient progress toward goals and outcomes in collaboration with the health care team.
- Document assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record, ensuring legibility, timeliness, and compliance with policy.
- Provide care based on best evidence available and participate in research activities within clinical practice.
- Participate in unit or facility shared leadership, education, role development, and orientation of personnel, patients, students, families, and visitors.
- Promote and support the growth of others through precepting and mentoring.
- Contribute to excellent patient outcomes through timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and safe care.
- Actively participate in improving national nursing quality indicators and outcomes, including participation in professional organizations.
- Interact with staff across departments, physicians, patients, families, and external contacts to support patient care.
- Synthesize and prioritize data from multiple sources to support the human response of patients and families to changes in health status.
Requirements
- Current, valid RN license in the state of practice, temporary/interim RN license, or compact RN licensure for the current state of practice.
- BLS certification is required.
- Additional certification or continuing education may be required based on the area of practice.
- Experience in the clinical area for which you are applying is desired.
- Must maintain clinical performance competencies appropriate to the area of work as demonstrated through annual validations.
- Banner Registry and Travel acute care positions require a minimum of one year of experience in an acute care hospital setting within the past 12 months as a Registered Nurse in the specialty area.
- For Home Health settings, must be able to operate a personal vehicle and possess a valid driver’s license with active auto insurance coverage.
- For positions in behavioral health settings serving children, must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain it for the duration of employment. An Arizona Criminal History Affidavit must be signed upon hire.
- For Banner Home Care AZ, must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain it for the duration of employment.
- For Banner Staffing (BSS) Behavioral Health roles in Arizona, must possess a State of Arizona Department of Public Safety Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain it for the duration of employment.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Professional certification preferred.
