About the role
Conemaugh Nason Medical Center, part of Lifepoint Health, is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for its Float Pool. This role offers flexibility and the opportunity to build a broad clinical skill set by working across multiple units, including Med/Surg, ICU, and ER. Responsibilities
- Float to open positions in Med/Surg, ICU, and ER as needed.
- Document patient care given.
- Evaluate learning needs of patient and/or family and provide patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
- Collaborate across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral, and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
- Work as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.
- Perform plan of care interventions, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, and other medical care treatments.
- Inform appropriate manager of any staffing, supply, or equipment needs not able to be met through routine procedures.
- Serve as a professional model for staff and a preceptor for new personnel.
- Maintain current knowledge and appropriate certification in area/s of present nursing practice.
- Provide quality care consistent with Hospital standards and participate in the Hospital's Continuous Quality Improvement Program.
- Monitor, record, and communicate patient condition as appropriate to care team, physician, patient, and family.
- Assist patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
- Develop a discharge plan with the physician, patient, and family and prepare the patient for discharge.
- Complete discharge instruction record as per physician direction and review information with patient/family to ensure knowledge of self-care in a timely manner.
- Complete transfer and obtain appropriate consents when a patient is transferred to another facility and give a complete report to the caregiver accepting responsibility for care.
- Demonstrate effectiveness in coordinating care, identifying needs, and making appropriate referrals.
- Administer medications and IV therapies accurately in a safe and effective manner, monitor effects, identify and report any adverse effects.
- Educate patients on new medications, provide information on the reason for the medication, and adverse effects to watch for.
- Accurately account for narcotics as per procedures and document all medications administered.
- Recognize errors and adverse reactions and report them in a timely manner.
Requirements
- Graduate of an RN program and hold a current nurse's license in the state of Pennsylvania or a current multistate license (MSL) from compact member states/territories.
- Associate's degree is required; Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing and/or Health Care Administration preferred.
- Three to five years' experience in nursing practice, preferably in Med/Surg, ICU, and ER.
- Basic Life Support (BLS).
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) or obtained within 6 months.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or obtained within 6 months.
