St. John’s Hospital in Maplewood, MN is expanding its Float Pool and seeking Registered Nurses to join a team that works across various units, builds diverse clinical experience, and contributes to exceptional patient care. This role offers the opportunity to float to multiple departments, including Cardiac Telemetry, Med/Surg, Orthopedics, Oncology, and more, providing a dynamic and engaging work environment.

About the Role

The Float Pool RN will take full care assignments and float to a variety of units, supporting patient care throughout the hospital. This position is ideal for nurses who thrive in a fast-paced environment, enjoy problem-solving, and are dedicated to putting patients first. An additional $2/hour augmentation is available for this role.

Orientation is based in Medical Surgical units, with unit-specific training determined by your level of experience. After 6 months, there is an option to train in specialty areas such as ER, ICU, and MCC. The role includes duties such as tele monitoring, IV therapies, postoperative care, accessing port-a-caths, PICCs, and feeding tubes, with opportunities to obtain certifications in Med/Surg, Ortho, and Chemo.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the key leader of the interdependent team, coordinating care for a group of patients.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of patient and family needs, identify outcomes, and establish/modify the plan of care.
  • Apply the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation) to coordinate outcome-focused patient care.
  • Incorporate Watson’s Theory of Caring and align with the practice standards of the American Holistic Nurses’ Association when offering comprehensive therapy.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians, and the care team regarding the plan of care.
  • Assess and document learning needs of patients and families, developing individualized education plans.
  • Actively participate in improvements at the point of care to achieve clinical quality, customer experience, and efficiency outcomes.
  • Align with regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and patient safety practices.
  • Coordinate the interdependent team while promoting collaborative teamwork.
  • Participate in the development and achievement of department goals (safety, cost, quality, patient experience, employee engagement).
  • Maintain knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Requirements

  • Basic Life Support certification through Health Care Providers.
  • Degree in Nursing.
  • RN License.
  • Willingness to work in a fast-paced, flexible environment with a commitment to patient-centered care.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Telemetry experience.
  • BSN degree.

Schedule

This position is 0.6 FTE (48 hours every two weeks) on the night shift, with 8-hour shifts, a variable schedule, and an every-other-weekend and holiday rotation.
