Registered Nurse (RN) - Endoscopy - Days

Our Endoscopy unit provides comprehensive care to more than 7,000 patients annually. Its mission is to deliver high-quality, compassionate inpatient and outpatient endoscopic care, develop and evaluate new endoscopic technologies and procedures, and serve as a primary training site for gastroenterology fellows and surgical residents. The facility performs a full range of routine and advanced GI services.

About the role

The Clinical Nurse II demonstrates a mastery of clinical skills and begins to apply this knowledge to a specific patient population. The Clinical Nurse III demonstrates clinical knowledge at the unit level and begins to apply this knowledge to a specific patient population.

• Assists the health care team with the prevention of illness and injury, maintenance of wellness, and provision of comfort.
• Recognizes (II) or anticipates (III) changes in patient situations and intervenes appropriately.
• Mobilizes resources to meet the individualized needs of patient/families.
• Provides direction, education, and assumes leadership responsibilities (II) or serves as a role model (III) at the unit level.
• Delivers and accurately documents direct, age-specific care to a patient or group of patients based on medical orders and an integrated, multidisciplinary plan of care.
• Safely administers prescribed medications, identifying incompatibilities and/or interactions.
• Organizes work and delegates/supervises others (RNs, LPNs, Care Partners, Unit Secretaries, etc.) in carrying out assignments.

Schedule

Position is Monday through Friday and typically consists of 2 ten-hour and 2 eight-hour shifts weekly, but can vary.

Requirements

• Current RN licensure in Virginia or eligible/compact state (required for hire).
• Current RN licensure in Virginia and AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent (required for continued employment).
• Clinicians work all three shifts, weekends, and holidays; individual shift rotation and schedules will be established with your Nurse Manager/Practice Manager.

Experience

• Clinical Nurse I: No prior RN experience required.
• Clinical Nurse II: 12 to 24 months of RN experience (required).
• Clinical Nurse III: 3 years of clinical experience (required).
• Preferred for all levels: Academic health care experience; experience with a similar patient population in an acute care setting or as applicable to the area of practice.
• Preferred for Clinical Nurse I: Experience as an LPN, nursing assistant, or care partner in an acute care setting.

Education & Training

• Required for all levels: Diploma or Associate’s Degree from a professional nursing program recognized by the corresponding state’s Board of Nursing.
• All registered nurses without a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (or higher) must enroll in an approved RN to BSN program within two years of their start date and complete it within five years unless grandfathered under previous requirements.
• Preferred for all levels: Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (or higher) from an accredited program.
• Preferred for Clinical Nurse III: Certification in specialty area.

Physical Requirements

• Physical: Lifting 20–50 lbs; exposure to potentially hazardous and infectious substances.
• Activities: Prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, frequent bending, walking (distance), climbing (steps, ladder, other), reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive).
• Mental/Sensory: Strong recall, reasoning, problem-solving, hearing, speaking clearly, writing legibly, reading, logical thinking.
• Emotional: Fast-paced environment, steady pace, ability to handle multiple priorities, frequent and intense customer interactions, noisy environment.
