About the Role

A Registered Nurse in the Emergency Unit at Avera Marshall Hospital is accountable for safe, individualized, efficient, and effective management and delivery of nursing care for patients presenting to the emergency department.

Responsibilities

  • Assume RN job duties as per license if and/or when floating to other areas of the medical center.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking by synthesizing best practice protocols and standards with patient data to decide on the best course of action.
  • Identify and respond to changes in clinical condition, providing timely communication to the care team using SBAR format.
  • Include patient and significant others in the plan of care, including education needs from admission through discharge, with complete and accurate documentation.
  • Actively participate in the learning experiences of orientees, co-workers, and students as assigned.
  • Take ownership of professional development by staying current with professional practice standards and sharing new learnings with peers.
  • Complete Nurse-Patient Rounds as assigned and support service excellence strategies.
  • Participate in quality improvement practices by following best practice standards for Core Measures and incorporating Appropriate Care Interventions.
  • Interact professionally with physicians to coordinate care for patients across the continuum.
  • Ensure readiness for emergency situations, fulfilling assigned roles on the code team and following safety policies.
  • Participate in the development of the trauma program, following guidelines defined by MDH Level III trauma designation.
  • Be familiar with EHR, attend trainings, and serve as an IT resource for physicians in assigned EHR modules.
  • Participate in the facility DECON program, drills, and required training.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Unit Charge Responsibilities

  • Ensure quality care is delivered on assigned shifts through regular interactions with Unit Charge RNs.
  • Meet all essential functions of a staff nurse and may have a patient assignment.
  • Investigate incidents, patient complaints, and care issues, reporting to nursing supervisor with suggestions for improvement.
  • Report all AHE and high-risk situations to department leader, Assistant CNO, and CNO immediately.

11:00 A.M. - 11:00 P.M. Shift Responsibilities

  • Function as an Emergency Department RN, providing direct patient care and supporting Emergency Department operations.
  • Provide support in other patient care areas including Medical Surgical Unit, Inpatient Behavioral Health Unit, and Labor and Delivery.
  • Assist with tasks in Long Term Care, provide break relief for acute care nursing staff, and deliver care to outpatients.

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse (RN) with an active license in the state of practice (upon hire).
  • 1-3 years of Emergency, Hospital, ICU, or other acute department RN experience.

Pay

The hourly pay range for this position is $38.29 - $61.16, dependent upon experience.

Schedule

  • Night shift: 7:00 P.M. - 7:30 A.M.
  • 56 hours per pay period (2 weeks).
  • Every third weekend.
  • One summer and one winter holiday rotation.
