Registered Nurse (RN-CN1), Trauma Surgical-2 Tower, Full Time, Days, ONA

UC Health is hiring a full-time Registered Nurse (RN) for the trauma surgical department on the day shift (7 AM-7:30 PM) at University of Cincinnati Medical Center. This unit cares for patient populations from many specialized surgical teams, including trauma, ENT, and urology, with admissions from the ER, SICU, and PACU.

About the role

Nursing care for the trauma patient focuses on recovery from traumatic injury, with an emphasis on mobility, patient education, monitoring intake and outputs, and pain management. The unit serves patients from the area's only Adult Level 1 Trauma Center, handling injuries from motor vehicle crashes, gunshot wounds, and other accidents.

Surgical specialties include:

• Ear Nose & Throat (ENT): A large head & neck program treating patients with head & neck cancer or other diseases, including airway, neck, and facial reconstruction procedures.
• Urology: Surgeries and procedures related to urological cancer or other diseases, such as prostate issues, urostomies, and urinary diversions.

Responsibilities

• Patient Population (Clinical Only):
  • Engage in population-appropriate communication.

  • Involve family/guardian in assessment, treatment, and continuing care.
  • Identify physical limitations and deploy necessary interventions.

  • Perform treatments, administer medication, and operate equipment safely.
  • Recognize and respond to signs of abuse or neglect.

  • Collect basic-level data and follow protocols without deviation.
  • Match formal knowledge with clinical events to make decisions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree from an accredited school of Nursing (preferred).
• Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Ohio.
• Current BLS/ACLS/PALS certifications per department requirements based on patient population needs.
