About the role

UC Health is hiring a full-time Registered Nurse (RN) for the ortho trauma department on the Night Shift (7 PM–7:30 AM) at University of Cincinnati Medical Center. This 28-bed unit cares for patients admitted from the ER, PACU, and SICU, focusing on recovery from traumatic injury with an emphasis on mobility, patient education, monitoring intake and outputs, and pain management. The unit also treats orthopedic patients recovering from total knee, hip, and shoulder replacements as well as spinal surgery cases.

As the region’s only Adult Level 1 Trauma Center, UCMC receives patients with injuries from motor vehicle crashes, gunshot wounds, and other accidents, providing treatment for severe and multiple fractures, non-healing fractures, bone infections, and other complex conditions.

Responsibilities

• Utilize specialized nursing knowledge, judgment, and skills to provide culturally based, age-specific care to groups and individuals.
• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care in collaboration with the healthcare team, revising the interdisciplinary plan of care as needed within unit standards.
• Communicate the plan of care to all levels of associates involved in patient care and establish priorities based on patient assessment and needs.
• Provide clear instructions to patients and families regarding treatment, involving them in assessment, initial treatment, and continuing care.
• Identify and respond appropriately to diverse patient needs, including behavioral health, psychological, and cultural/religious norms.
• Demonstrate critical thinking, accountability, flexibility, and cooperation to meet unit needs.
• Accurately and concisely document the nursing process, including treatment evaluation, in accordance with hospital policy.
• Act as a resource and mentor for new personnel, float, and supplemental staff.
• Take responsibility for personal professional development and contribute to the development of peers, colleagues, and others.

Requirements

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ASN) from an accredited school of Nursing (required).
• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited school of Nursing (preferred).
• Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Ohio.
• Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications per department requirements based on patient population needs.
• For employees in UCMC Psychiatric Services: NCI-APS (Nonviolent Crisis Intervention with Advanced Physical Skills) Certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
• No prior experience required.
