About the role

The RN Clinical Specialist will serve as a role model of excellence in nursing knowledge and clinical practice for the critical care environment. Key responsibilities include conducting educational needs assessments, improving nursing practice, supporting shared leadership, and participating in various committees.

Responsibilities

  • Supports team members and encourages staff participation on unit-based teams.
  • Offers support and feedback to peers and staff.
  • Applies principles of caring and healing in interactions with patients and families.
  • Strives to achieve excellence of service through evidence-based patient experience initiatives.
  • Responds to internal codes and alerts.
  • Maintains privacy and security of confidential and protected health information.
  • Provides direct and/or indirect care based on identified patient needs.
  • Develops educational and professional practice goals and objectives annually.
  • Assists in the development of standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Participates in clinical preceptorship and implements changes as needed.
  • Communicates planned changes with staff prior to implementation.
  • Participates on system-wide committees.
  • Performs rounds on unit(s) to evaluate and monitor care.
  • Practices in accordance with professional association standards and legal requirements.
  • Develops new forms and suggests revisions to improve quality of care.
  • Evaluates staff performance during clinical emergencies.
  • Serves as a coach and mentor for less experienced colleagues.
  • Collaborates with managers and directors to plan/implement and evaluate educational activities.
  • Affirms the need to implement changes required to deliver quality patient care.
  • Assists nursing staff with decision making in clinical situations.
  • Collaborates with other health care professionals and nursing in establishing goals and implementing the plan of care.
  • Serves as a consultant/resource person as requested.
  • Advances professional nursing through organizations, publications, and other activities.
  • Creates and conducts departmental education/training sessions for the team.
  • Selects and implements valid and reliable instruments and metrics to measure processes and outcomes.
  • Provides staff recognition through positive reinforcement and constructive feedback.
  • Consults with doctors and other healthcare professionals as needed.
  • Counsels, develops, and evaluates the performance and clinical practice of staff.
  • Uses evidenced-based practice and performance improvement to guide clinical decision-making.

Requirements

  • Education: Masters Degree, Nursing or relevant field (Required) or Bachelors Degree, Nursing and enrolled in Masters in Nursing or relevant field program (Required).
  • Experience: 3-4 years Clinical nursing experience in Hospital Setting (Required) and 1 year Educator or teaching experience (Preferred).
  • Licenses and Certifications: Registered Nurse (RN) - Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP) upon hire (Required), CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) upon hire (Required), ACLS Provider - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) within 60 days (Required), PALS Provider - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) upon hire (Preferred), Certified Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) - American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN Certification Corporation) related nursing specialty certification accepted in lieu of CCRN within 60 days (Required).

  • Ability to assess and recommend the need to implement changes required to deliver quality patient care.
  • Ability to assist nursing staff with decision making in clinical situations.
  • Ability to collaborate with other health care professionals and nursing in the establishment of goals and implementation of the plan of care.
  • Ability to serve as a consultant/resource person as requested.
  • Ability to advance professional nursing through organizations, publications, and other activities.
  • Ability to create and conduct departmental education/training sessions for the team.
  • Ability to select and implement valid and reliable instruments and metrics to measure processes and outcomes.

Actual pay is determined based on job-related factors such as relevant experience, education, credentials, skills, internal equity, and business needs.

Pay

Hiring range: $102,200.00 - $140,525.00/Annual
