Registered Nurse (RN) Clinical Lead - Med/Surg

Department: Full time, benefits eligible. 36 hours per week, primarily night shifts (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM).

About the role

Atrium Health Navicent Peach is a 25-bed department delivering comprehensive care to swing-bed patients and ER admissions. The unit manages complex treatments such as heparin drips and insulin drips, and provides onsite physical and occupational therapy to help patients regain strength and independence.

Responsibilities

• Provides leadership to the health care team, coordinating patient care and throughput.
• Demonstrates technical and clinical competence, serving as a resource and role model for staff.
• Facilitates development of safe and effective care plans through early identification of patient needs and resources.
• Anticipates medical and psychosocial needs in high-risk patients and facilitates appropriate clinical pathways.
• Participates in daily rounds with a focus on discharge planning.
• Serves as charge nurse and operational leader for patient flow when not in an administrative role.
• Ensures patients and caregivers are aware of the care plan and anticipated discharge date.
• Responds to customer concerns or complaints in a timely manner.
• Alerts physicians of cases needing review or discussion.
• Acts as a liaison between patient, family, physician, and interdisciplinary team regarding care plans and progress.
• Works with Clinical Intake and Navigation Center to ensure efficient patient flow.
• Reviews and adjusts staffing to meet immediate and future shift needs.
• Facilitates safe discharge plans aligned with patient needs and payer specifications.
• Engages with patients, families, and post-acute care providers to ensure post-discharge follow-up.
• Participates in staff performance evaluations.
• Aligns educational activities with organizational and departmental goals.
• Works with unit leadership to facilitate orientation for new staff.
• Ensures completion and appropriate storage of orientation, education, and competency checklists.

Requirements

• Current RN license with the Georgia State Board of Nursing.
• Must attend hospital mandatory training annually.
• Must maintain and complete all competencies, including age-specific and department-specific training, on an annual basis.
• Completion of internally developed and national/professional organization training courses within unit-specified timeframes.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (BSN preferred).
• Minimum 6 months of experience as a Clinical Nurse.
• Preferred: 2 years of experience as a Clinical Nurse and 6 months of experience as a Charge Nurse.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

• Must have visual near and distance acuity.
• Must be able to communicate verbally in person and over the phone or radio.
• Must assist co-workers in transfers and transport of supplies, patients, or equipment using proper body mechanics.
• Functional range of motion in cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spines, upper and lower extremities, with grip strength of 60-80 pounds.
• Ability to forward reach, overhead reach, bend, squat, kneel, and change positions rapidly.
• Must lift 25-60 lbs. and carry 25-50 pounds.
• Must tolerate high noise levels, busy atmospheres, and noxious odors.
• Must remain calm under stressful situations and assess/respond to multiple situations simultaneously.
• Must assist co-workers in overlapping tasks and prioritize job tasks efficiently.
• Works in hospital and clinical environments, including exposure to extreme heat and infectious or communicable diseases.

Pay

Pay range: $41.10 – $61.65 per hour.
