Registered Nurse (RN) Clinical Lead - Med/Surg

About the Role

Atrium Health Navicent Peach is a dynamic 25-bed department delivering comprehensive care to swing bed patients and ER admissions. The team manages complex treatments such as heparin drips, insulin drips, and more, while swing bed patients benefit from onsite physical and occupational therapy to regain strength and independence.

Responsibilities

• Provides leadership to the healthcare team with an emphasis on coordination of patient care and throughput.
• Demonstrates technical and clinical competence, serving as a clinical resource and role model for staff.
• Facilitates the development of safe and effective care plans through early identification of patient needs and resources.
• Anticipates medical and psychosocial needs in high-risk patients and facilitates appropriate clinical pathways.
• Participates in daily rounds with a focus on discharge planning.
• Serves as charge nurse and operational leader for patient flow when not in an administrative role.
• Ensures patients and caregivers are aware of the care plan and anticipated discharge day.
• Responds to customer concerns or complaints in a timely manner.
• Alerts physicians of cases needing review or discussion.
• Acts as a liaison between patient, family, physician, and interdisciplinary healthcare team regarding the plan of care.
• Works with the Clinical Intake and Navigation Center to effect efficient patient flow.
• Reviews and amends staffing to determine immediate and future needs.
• Facilitates safe discharge plans aligned with patient needs and payer specifications.
• Engages with patients, families, and post-acute care to ensure post-discharge follow-up.
• Participates in staff performance evaluations.
• Aligns educational activities with organizational and departmental goals.
• Ensures timely communication and provision of educational activities.
• Works with unit leadership to facilitate orientation for new staff.
• Ensures completion and proper storage of orientation, education, and competency checklists.

Requirements

• Current RN license with the Georgia State Board of Nursing.
• Must attend hospital mandatory training annually.
• Must maintain and complete all competencies, including age-specific and department-specific training, annually.
• Completion of internally developed and national/professional organization courses within unit-specified time periods.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (BSN preferred).
• Minimum 6 months of experience as a Clinical Nurse.
• Preferred: 2 years of experience as a Clinical Nurse and 6 months of experience as a Charge Nurse.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

• Must be able to use visual near and distance acuity.
• Must have verbal ability to communicate in person and over the phone or radio.
• Must assist co-workers in transfers and transport of supplies, patients, or equipment using good body mechanics.
• Functional range of motion of the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spines, upper and lower extremities with grip strength of 60-80 pounds.
• Ability to forward reach, overhead reach, bend, squat, kneel, and change positions rapidly.
• Must lift 25-60 lbs. and carry 25-50 pounds.
• Must tolerate high noise, busy atmospheres, and noxious odors.
• Must work in noisy environments and remain self-directed to complete tasks.
• Must remain calm under stressful situations and assess/respond to multiple situations simultaneously.
• Must assist co-workers in overlapping tasks simultaneously.
• Works in hospital and clinical environments; may work in extreme heat with hot materials.
• Must utilize appropriate universal and specific precautions for protection from potential exposure to infectious or communicable diseases.
• Must prioritize job tasks and organize workspace efficiently.
