About the Role

This position assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and documents nursing care of acute patients in an acute care environment. The role provides care in accordance with organizational policies and professional nursing practice standards, utilizing a framework for professional nursing practice and development. Accountability includes the quality of nursing services delivered by self or others under their direction, using specialized knowledge, judgment, and nursing skills to assess data, plan, provide, and evaluate care appropriate to the physical and developmental age of assigned patients.

Fairbanks Memorial Hospital is a non-profit, Joint Commission-accredited facility with 152 licensed beds, owned by the Greater Fairbanks Community Hospital Foundation. It serves as the primary referral center for residents of Alaska's interior, offering a strong patient-to-nurse ratio and a Shared Leadership Infrastructure. Responsibilities

• Assesses patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs.
• Reviews patient history and physical with patient/family, ensuring completion within appropriate timeframes.
• Reviews available information from other health care team members, diagnostics, and laboratory data, reporting abnormal results to physicians and caregivers.
• Completes assessment and reassessments according to patient need and policy.
• Formulates a plan of care, including discharge planning, using assessment data and input from the patient, family, and health team.
• Initiates a realistic, measurable plan of care in collaboration with the patient/family, considering physical, cultural, psychosocial, spiritual, age-specific, and educational needs.
• Collaborates with multidisciplinary team members to review and revise the plan of care based on changing patient needs.
• Implements the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of the health care team.
• Provides care based on physician orders and the nursing plan of care, complying with policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
• Delegates appropriately and supervises licensed nurses and other personnel in patient care.
• Promotes continuity of care through accurate and complete communication with other caregivers.
• Evaluates patient and family response to care and teaching, revising the plan of care as needed.
• Evaluates patient progress toward goals and outcomes in collaboration with the health care team.
• Documents assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record, ensuring legibility, timeliness, and adherence to policy.
• Provides care based on best evidence available and may participate in research activities within clinical practice.
• Participates in unit or facility shared leadership, education, role development, and orientation of personnel, patients, students, families, and visitors.
• Acts as a preceptor or mentor to support the growth of others.
• Contributes to excellent patient outcomes through timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and safe care, including participation in professional organizations.
• In some roles, supervises staff and workflow of the department.
• Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory, and accreditation requirements.
• Demonstrates core and leader behaviors to provide an excellent service experience for all customers.

Requirements

• Valid current or temporary Alaska RN license.
• Associate's degree in nursing (knowledge and skills normally demonstrated by this degree).
• BLS certification required.
• May require ACLS, PALS, or additional certification and/or continuing education based on area of practice.
• Creative thinking, prioritizing, and flexible problem-solving skills.
• Ability to communicate clearly in both verbal and written forms.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in nursing.
• Professional certification in the specialty area.
• Experience working in an acute care setting within the past 12 months as a Registered Nurse in the specialty area.
