Sentara Obici Hospital is hiring a Registered Nurse for a full-time, night-shift position in the Behavioral Health Unit (BHU). A sign-on bonus of up to $20,000 is available for qualified candidates. New graduate nurses are eligible for a $7,500 bonus.
About the unit
The Behavioral Health Unit (BHU) at Sentara Obici Hospital is a licensed 20-bed unit serving dual-diagnosis behavioral health patients, including but not limited to those with bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, major depression, and substance abuse. The unit is low to moderate acuity and locked. The BHU has consistently achieved the highest customer service scores within Sentara’s behavioral health services, as well as high employee engagement scores.
Nurses work collaboratively with a full interdisciplinary behavioral health team, including mental health techs, LPNs, behavioral health therapists, recreational therapists, nurse practitioners, and psychiatrists. The unit operates under a team nursing structure, with all members engaged in patient care. Group therapy sessions are provided on the unit.

The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for performing a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process. The standards of practice include:

Requirements
- Degree or diploma in Registered Nursing (required)
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) (preferred)
- Students in the process of completing an accredited nursing program may be considered
- Registered Nursing License (required)
- Students in the process of obtaining a Registered Nursing License may be considered
- BLS certification required within 90 days of hire
Qualifications
- No prior experience required
- Behavioral health experience is highly preferred
- 1 year of acute care experience (preferred)
- Previous healthcare experience (preferred)
