About the Role
The Behavioral Health Unit at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital is an Adult Psych Unit (ages 18 and up, 22 beds plus an additional 8 overflow beds) and a Geri Psych Unit (ages 65 and over). A multimillion-dollar renovation has been completed, improving the unit's esthetic and bringing ligature points and safety up to the latest standards. Each team of nurses is very supportive and works in collaboration with three Psychiatrists on staff and one medical director who is onsite 8 days a month and works via telehealth.
How You Will Contribute
- Provides direct patient care using the nursing process in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice for behavioral health patients
- Collaborates with the interprofessional team to support a safe, therapeutic environment and high-quality outcomes
- Performs plan-of-care interventions, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, and other medical care activities
- Documents patient care provided in a timely and accurate manner
- Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition to the care team, physicians, patients, and families
- Assists patients with activities of daily living (hygiene, elimination, nutrition, ambulation)
- Collaborates across disciplines to coordinate care (transfers, discharges, referrals, and psychosocial/spiritual support needs)
- Assesses learning needs and delivers age-/culture-appropriate patient and family education
- Advocates for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient
- Participates in unit and organizational performance improvement and required continuing education
- Provides quality patient care and works other shifts/units as needed; may be assigned on call
- Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Associate's degree in nursing required; bachelor's degree in nursing preferred
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Current RN license in state of practice
- BCLS required
- Handle with Care preferred
- Critical thinking and decisive judgment; able to work with minimal supervision in stressful environments
- Ability to quickly learn and navigate multiple clinical software systems
- Effective English communication (read, write, speak, and understand)
- Ability to successfully complete the Skills Competency Checklist within 90 days of hire

Commitment Bonus: $20,000 two-year commitment
