About the Role

The Preoperative Registered Nurse is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and coordinating patient care from admission to discharge. The Registered Nurse ensures the achievement of patient outcomes through implementation of critical pathways and in accordance with the mission, vision, and values of the facility.

Responsibilities

• Correlate clinical data with patients' medical and nursing care.
• Set priorities and provide clear, concise direction to others to promote efficiency throughout the clinical areas of the facility.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, teammates, physicians, and other members of the healthcare team.
• Recognize legal and policy limits of individual practice.
• Assess, plan, evaluate, and ensure the implementation of patient care to achieve identified outcomes and deliver safe patient care according to facility policy and procedure.
• Assess patient status on admission and on an ongoing basis.
• Implement appropriate standards of care based on assessment data and patient goals, mutually set with the patient and family.
• Coordinate nursing interventions to enhance achievement of expected outcomes and ensure readiness for discharge.
• Ensure provision of patient care daily in an organized and timely manner.
• Adhere to all facility policies and procedures when providing patient care.
• Utilize nursing care standards when planning and implementing patient care.
• Demonstrate ability to direct and provide patient care in emergency situations.
• Assess learning needs according to patient’s level of understanding and readiness to learn.
• Evaluate patient’s progress toward outcome achievement on an ongoing basis and revise the plan of care based on changes in patient status or information gathered at shift change.
• Document patient’s progress toward achievement of outcomes.
• Direct others in the implementation of the teaching plan.
• Assume an active role in the provision of quality nursing care for patients receiving care.
