About the role

Provides resident care by utilizing the nursing process in assessment, planning, and implementation of care. Exhibits organizational abilities related to workflow and prioritizing resident care needs. Uses current standards of practice and follows current facility policy and procedures while providing resident care. Supports the mission of HCSP and exemplifies The Better Way through leadership and demeanor. Represents the center in a positive manner both in the medical community and in the community as a whole.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the interdisciplinary care team to assure accurate patient assessment and development/revision of individualized plans of care.
  • Maintain open and ongoing communication with patients and families, providing opportunity and encouragement to participate in decision making.
  • Assign duties to nursing partners and make rounds, with specific attention to high-acuity patients.
  • Monitor units to ensure appropriate nursing care (according to established policies and procedures) is being provided; notify doctors and families of changes in patients’ condition.
  • Assume responsibility for assisting with medications and treatments as needed (including IV fluids and IV medications).
  • Assist with admitting patients as required.
  • Assist with hiring and orientation of new nursing partners.
  • Ensure the personal dignity and physical safety of each patient; assist patients to attain the highest level of self-care possible.
  • Assist physicians during rounds.
  • Supervise LPNs and other nursing partners as assigned.
  • Complete performance evaluations as required (two times per year).
  • Adjust staffing schedules as indicated by absence and illness; contact additional help to maintain staffing levels and meet patient care needs.
  • Carry out personnel disciplinary actions (written, verbal warnings, suspension, and termination) promptly and effectively as stated in personnel policies.
  • Maintain the security of the premises and direct unauthorized persons to leave.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including relieving other shifts if needed.
  • Ensure resident safety and willingness to be assigned work on different units according to staffing needs.
  • Work in settings where patients’ needs, actions, and responses vary widely, requiring immediate, professional, and compassionate action in unpredictable reactions and/or emergencies.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Maintain a current unencumbered license to practice in the state where employed.
  • Seek opportunities for personal and professional growth.
  • Attend continuing education offerings and contribute to the ongoing education of partners under supervision through teaching and mentoring.

Qualifications

  • Responsible for maintaining clinical competency as evidenced by application of integrated nursing knowledge and skills, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Utilize the nursing process in assessment, planning, and implementing care.
  • Exhibit organizational ability related to workflow and prioritizing patient care needs.
  • Integrate current standards of practice as well as local, state, and federal regulations related to nursing services in patient care.
  • Practice continuous quality improvement thinking and problem-solving skills.

Physical Demands

  • Able to be on feet standing or walking 8-12 hours per day.
  • Able to lift 60-70 lbs on an occasional basis.
  • Able to bend, stoop, squat, and twist numerous times a day.
  • Able to see and hear adequately to respond to auditory and visual requests.
  • Able to speak in a clear, concise voice to communicate with patients who may be hearing impaired.
  • Able to carry out fine motor skills and manual dexterity.

Schedule

  • Work 12-hour shifts: 7a-7p or 7p-7a.
