About the Role

The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing direct nursing care to residents and supervising the day-to-day nursing activities performed by nursing assistants. This role ensures the highest degree of quality care is maintained in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Direct the day-to-day functions of nursing assistants
• Plan and coordinate shift services, programs, and activities with assigned nursing staff and support personnel
• Make written and oral reports concerning shift activities as required
• Admit, transfer, and discharge residents
• Provide leadership to nursing personnel assigned to your unit/shift
• Complete and file required recordkeeping forms/charts for resident admission, transfer, and/or discharge
• Receive and transcribe telephone orders from physicians
• Chart nurse’s notes in an informative and descriptive manner reflecting care provided and resident response
• Complete accident/incident reports and submit to Director as required
• Perform routine charting duties in accordance with established policies and procedures
• Prepare and administer medications as ordered by the physician
• Develop and maintain good working relationships with inter-departmental personnel
• Create and maintain a warm, calm, and positive environment for residents and staff
• Receive and give nursing reports at the start and end of shifts
• Make rounds with physicians as necessary
• Administer professional services such as catheterization, tube feedings, suction, wound care, colostomy care, IV site care, and range of motion exercises
• Monitor assigned personnel to ensure compliance with safety regulations
• Maintain confidentiality of all resident care information, including protected health information
• Ensure all nursing care is provided in privacy and staff knock before entering resident rooms
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Registered Nurse with a current unencumbered state license
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English
• Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant
• Knowledge of nursing and medical practices, procedures, and relevant laws and regulations
• Current CPR Certification
• Experience in Long Term Care is preferred

Physical Demands

• Ability to move intermittently throughout the workday
• Ability to cope with mental and emotional stress associated with the position
• Must meet general health requirements, including a medical and physical examination
• Ability to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a height of 5 feet and carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet
• May be required to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations
