About the role

The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing direct nursing care to residents and supervising the day-to-day activities of nursing assistants. This role ensures the highest degree of quality care is maintained in accordance with federal, state, and local standards, as well as facility guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Direct the day-to-day functions of nursing assistants.
• Plan and coordinate shift services, programs, and activities with nursing staff and support personnel.
• Make written and oral reports concerning shift activities as required.
• Admit, transfer, and discharge residents as needed.
• Provide leadership to nursing personnel assigned to your unit/shift.
• Complete and file required recordkeeping forms/charts for resident admissions, transfers, and discharges.
• Receive and transcribe physician telephone orders and record them on the Physician’s Order Form.
• Chart nurse’s notes in an informative and descriptive manner reflecting care provided and resident responses.
• Complete accident/incident reports and submit them to the Director as required.
• Perform routine charting duties in accordance with established policies and procedures.
• Prepare and administer medications as ordered by the physician.
• Develop and maintain good working relationships with inter-departmental personnel to ensure nursing services meet resident needs.
• Create and maintain a warm, calm, and positive environment for residents and staff.
• Receive and give nursing reports at the beginning and end of shifts.
• Make rounds with physicians as necessary.
• Administer professional services such as catheterization, tube feedings, suction, wound care, colostomy care, blood draws, massages, and range of motion exercises.
• Monitor assigned personnel to ensure compliance with safety regulations for equipment and supplies.
• Maintain confidentiality of all resident care information, including protected health information.
• Report incidents of unauthorized disclosure of resident information.
• Ensure all nursing care is provided in privacy, and staff knock before entering resident rooms.
• Provide IV and IV site care as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Registered Nurse with a current unencumbered state license.
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
• Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant.
• Knowledge of nursing and medical practices, procedures, and regulations pertaining to nursing care facilities.
• Current CPR Certification.
• Experience in Long Term Care is preferred.

Physical Demands

• Ability to move intermittently throughout the workday.
• Ability to cope with mental and emotional stress associated with the position.
• Must meet general health requirements, including a medical and physical examination as per facility policies.
• Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a height of 5 feet and carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
• May be required to assist in resident evacuation during emergencies.
