Position Summary

Affirms leadership in coordinating patient care activities for the unit, adhering to TJC, federal, and state regulations. Provides direct patient care and assumes the Charge Nurse role, overseeing ancillary staff and communicating with the DON. Participates in performance improvement through chart monitoring, coordinates nursing care, communicates with medical staff, performs patient assessments, documents findings, completes admission paperwork, ensures thorough documentation, adheres to HR policies, follows infection control guidelines, and functions as a treatment team member.

Responsibilities

  • Assumes leadership responsibility for day-to-day coordination of patient care activities for the unit while maintaining standards of professional nursing practice in accord with TJC, federal and state regulations.
  • Provides direct patient care within the scope of the RN nursing license.
  • Assumes the Charge nurse role as assigned, providing oversight to ancillary staff during their scheduled shift.
  • Provides direct oversight to the nursing staff as indicated in the absence of the Director of Nursing and communicates with the DON on relevant nursing care issues.
  • Participates in the performance Improvement through completion of assigned chart monitoring.
  • Captures and coordinates the performance of nursing care to patients within the scope of practice and in compliance with policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Communicates with the medical staff on identified patient issues.
  • Performs patient care assessments timely and accurately.
  • Addresses patient care needs in a timely manner.
  • Documents findings into the medical record accurately and timely.
  • Completes all admission paperwork.
  • Ensures all admission and daily documentation is completed thoroughly and signed and dated according to protocol.
  • Adheres to Human Resource policies regarding code of conduct and attendance.
  • Follows Infection Control and Employee Health Guidelines to ensure safety of patients and staff.
  • Functions as a treatment team member and communicates identified patient goals, interventions, and assessments.
  • Participates as a member of the leadership team within the facility.

Requirements

  • One-year minimum experience in Mental Health.
  • Previous experience caring for adult dual diagnosis patients is essential.
  • Leadership experience is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Education: Associate Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing minimum.
  • Licenses: RN License through the state board of nursing.

Skills

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of mental health care practices and standards.
