About the Role

Assists the DON/CNO with directing, planning, coordinating, monitoring, and supervising the effective and efficient use of nursing operations for assigned units. Oversees the delivery of behavioral-health nursing services in a positive, empathetic, and professional manner at all times. Collaborates with interdisciplinary treatment teams, other departments, and administration to ensure residents’ physical, biopsychosocial, age, developmental, and cultural needs are met. Addresses and resolves customer complaints. Provides leadership to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and nursing practice standards. Prioritizes patient safety.

Responsibilities

  • Provide and coordinate care by assessing patients’ physical and behavioral health needs.
  • Develop and implement nursing care plans.
  • Maintain medical records and educate patients and families about physical and behavioral health conditions.
  • Provide nursing care within the standards and scope of the state Nurse Practice Act, facility policies, and corporate policies.
  • Ensure physicians’ orders are legible if taken verbally and transcribed appropriately per policy.
  • Assess patients’ status on an ongoing basis and document pertinent information.
  • Notify physicians of significant changes in status, such as detox difficulties, medical emergencies, medication responses, and related challenges.
  • Complete initial nursing treatment plans upon admission, tailored to assessed needs.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and use of universal precautions in direct patient care.
  • Administer medications accurately per ordered notes and document controlled substance counts.
  • Complete admission and discharge processing efficiently and accurately.
  • Maintain therapeutic rapport with patients by respecting boundaries, personal space, and providing direct attention.
  • Provide direction or coordinate unit activities as directed.
  • Communicate therapeutically and professionally with patients, visitors, coworkers, and others involved in treatment.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of employment or eligibility to practice nursing per state requirements.
  • One year of nursing experience; psychiatric, mental health, behavioral, or substance-use nursing experience preferred.
  • CPR and de-escalation/restraint certification required (training available upon hire).
  • First aid certification may be required based on state or facility requirements.
