About the role
The RN assists the Resource Nurse in the management and care of their assigned patients by means of direct patient care, nursing diagnosis, and patient teaching. Participate in educational programs as an educator/consultant (if applicable).
Responsibilities
- In collaboration with Resource Nurse makes patient assignments to team members to provide the best and most efficient nursing care.
- Logs into Vocera adding room assignments, updates electronic white boards with patients assigned and individual patient information.
- Captures patient assessments, hourly rounding and initial nursing assessment of all new admissions, admission note as well as on-going assessments and patient notes.
- Captures coordination of making post discharge follow-up calls.
- Captures coordination of making physicians rounds and physician notifications with the Resource Nurse.
- Carries out new orders and/or communicates new orders to team members to be completed.
- Makes necessary observation and suggestions to attending physicians.
- Accountable for acknowledging all new orders and following through with them.
- Provides bedside report for oncoming staff.
- Provides bedside care and functions to the patients.
- Is responsible for appropriate discharge and patient teaching for their shift and completes discharge routine documentation.
- Knows the hospital area resource services and insurance certification procedure for patients.
- Administers medication and treatments per physician orders and reviews H & P, meds, treatments, etc.
- Utilizes principles of good leadership and management in organizing nursing care on the unit.
- Serves as liaison between patient, physician, and staff.
- Attends and conducts in-services meeting, if needed.
- Records and documents all clinical and patient data including, but not limited to, narcotic counts, census data, QI information, physician orders, patients charges, and etc.
- Serves as an instructor for prenatal educational activities and collaborates with clinical leaders to assess, plan, implement and evaluate goals, objectives and content of educational programs (if applicable).
Requirements
- Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Experience preferred, but not required.
- Bi-lingual experience preferred but not required.
- Must have a current registered nurse license to practice in the State of Iowa.
- Must obtain and maintain professional certifications prior to working in the applicable areas: Med Surg: ACLS, BLS, PALS, NRP; Obstetrics: ACLS, PALS, Fetal Monitoring, STABLE; Labor & Delivery: ACLS, NRP.

- Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

Pay
Compensation is commensurate with experience.
Schedule
8 or 12 hour shift rotation (weekends, holidays and call rotation).
