About the Role

The RN Clinical Nurse is a proactive member of an interdisciplinary team of licensed and unlicensed caregivers who ensure that patients, families, and significant others receive individualized high-quality, safe patient care. They practice in a clinical environment supported by the Wellstar Shared Governance Model, guided by the Wellstar Professional Practice Model and evidence-based practice. RN competencies are derived from these models and supported by the Wellstar Values.

It is expected that all RN Clinical Nurses are licensed, knowledgeable, and uphold the practice of nursing as outlined by the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act, implementing the Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics Standards put forth by the American Nurses Association. As part of the patient services team, the RN upholds the voice of the patient, system policies, and procedures while supporting service excellence goals.

Responsibilities

• Exemplary Practice and Outcomes
  • Performs the Nursing Process (assessment, diagnosis, identification of outcomes, planning, implementation, and evaluation) using evidence-based practice, ensuring care is individualized and coordinating care through effective partnerships.
  • Provides relationship-based, patient-centered care consistent with population-specific characteristics (e.g., age, gender, disease) while adapting to cultural diversity.
  • Partners with patients and significant others using methods such as bedside shift reports, interdisciplinary rounds, and patient teaching, keeping the patient’s goals as the focus of care.
  • Practices using current clinical practice standards.
• Teamwork and Collaboration
  • Coordinates the delivery and documentation of safe, high-quality patient care, promoting a professional care delivery model through inclusive interdisciplinary communication (e.g., rounds, case reviews).
  • Demonstrates teamwork and collaboration in a fiscally responsible manner, supporting recruitment and retention of healthcare team members.
  • Participates in performance improvement, research, and shared governance at all levels in the system.
• Professional Development and Initiative
  • Completes all initial and ongoing professional competency assessments, mandatory education, and population-specific education.
  • Serves as a preceptor or mentor for other professional nurses, staff, or students to ensure a qualified workforce and a healthy work environment.
• Evidence-Based Practice and Research
  • Promotes evidence-based practice, nursing research, and performance improvement, including participation in value analysis for patient care products.
  • Upholds all system/organizational policies, clinical competencies, and legal/regulatory/accreditation requirements (e.g., TJC Patient Safety Goals, Wellstar Health Systems safety absolutes).
  • Participates in data collection, poses clinical questions to advanced evidence-based practice, and consults appropriate experts/resources.
• Resources and Support
  • Proactively plans for patient care across the continuum while providing direct care.
  • Participates in developing protocols and procedures to achieve best practice outcomes (e.g., reducing readmission rates, avoidable days, adverse events).
  • Supports efficient and effective use of human and material resources.
• Performs other duties as assigned and complies with all WellStar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.

Requirements

• Education:
  • Required: Associate’s Degree in Nursing or Diploma in Nursing.
  • Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
• Licenses and Certifications:
  • Required upon hire:
    • RN - Registered Nurse (Single State) or RN-COMPACT - RN (Multi-state Compact).
    • BLS - Basic Life Support, ARC-BLS - American Red Cross Basic Life Support, or BLS-I - Basic Life Support - Instructor.
• Experience:
  • Required: Less than 1 year of direct patient care experience (completion of accredited/approved school of nursing with requisite clinical hours).
