Registered Nurse - Respiratory - F/T Days

About the Role

The Registered Nurse functions as a caregiver for a specific patient population to achieve desired outcomes. This position focuses on expanding knowledge and skills, provides effective direct care as part of the interdisciplinary team to a variety of complex patients, and directs and oversees the care provided by other caregivers through delegation, validation, evaluation, and coordination. The role effectively coordinates patient care and unit activities among nursing peers, physicians, and support services.

Responsibilities

A Registered Nurse at Hackensack Meridian Health delivers nursing care according to evidence-based research, nursing policies, and standards of care to ensure safe and excellent individualized patient care. Key responsibilities include:

• Assessment
  • Collects comprehensive data pertinent to the patient's health or situation.
  • Performs age- and disease-specific assessments independently and systematically, focusing on physiologic, psychological, and cognitive status.
  • Recognizes clinical and diagnostic changes in patient status.
  • Identifies patient/family education needs based on age, disease, and culturally specific learning differences.
• Planning
  • Develops a plan of care that prescribes strategies and interventions to attain expected outcomes.
  • Formulates age- and disease-specific, patient/family-centered goals and outcomes based on assessment data.
  • Develops and coordinates a prioritized plan of care encompassing the continuum of care.
• Implementation
  • Communicates, coordinates, and implements the plan of care.
  • Provides ongoing communication with the patient, family, nursing colleagues, and other healthcare team members regarding patient status, care, and treatment plans.
  • Implements age- and disease-specific care in an organized and timely manner.
  • Provides or coordinates patient/family education and ensures understanding.
  • Performs care according to established protocols, communicates appropriately, and documents events.
  • Delivers nursing care reflecting patient needs, advocates appropriately, and demonstrates evidence-based practice and compliance with standards.
  • Performs continuous Point-of-Care electronic documentation of assessments, plan-of-care, interventions, and evaluation of rendered care.
  • Administers medication using bar-scanning and documentation technologies to ensure safe delivery.
  • Facilitates multi-disciplinary discharge of patients to ensure safe transitioning and continuum of care.
• Evaluation
  • Evaluates progress toward attainment of outcomes.
  • Utilizes critical thinking skills to achieve desired patient outcomes.
  • Initiates interventions related to changes in patient condition and unexpected responses to care.
• Additional Responsibilities
  • Identifies ethical issues in practice and brings them to the attention of the team.
  • Responds to opportunities to enhance patient satisfaction.
  • Maintains required competencies, certifications, and continuing education to meet accreditation and licensing requirements.
  • Adheres to the American Nurses Association Code for Nurses with Interpretive Statements.
  • Lifts a minimum of 35 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 10 lbs., and stands a minimum of 6 hours per day.
  • Adheres to organizational and managerial competencies and standards of behavior.
  • Performs other duties and projects as assigned.

Qualifications

• Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
  • A minimum of an Associate in Nursing or diploma in Nursing.
  • BSN in progress and/or willingness to acquire within three (3) years of hire (applies to team members hired on or after November 2019).
  • For union positions (CC456U, CC689U, CC891U): BSN required within five years of hire. Advanced master's degree in nursing programs (e.g., Associates to MSN) satisfy the BSN requirement.
  • Six (6) or more months of relevant nursing experience OR active participation in Hackensack Meridian Health's Nurse Residency Program.
  • Ability to learn quickly, adapt to changing patient needs, and demonstrate accountability for improving patient and caregiver lives.
  • Strong focus on teamwork, dedication to ongoing education, and passion for delivering high-quality care with a patient-centered approach.
• Preferred:
  • National Certification in area of specialty (when eligible).
• Licenses and Certifications Required:
  • Current and valid Registered Nurse license for the assigned HMH location by date of hire.
  • BLS/CPR certification by the American Heart Association within 60 days of hire.

Pay

HMH is committed to pay equity and transparency. The posted rate of pay is a reasonable good-faith estimate of the minimum base pay for this role at the time of posting. The starting rate of pay is $46.25 per hour. Posted rates may be adjusted based on labor market data, experience, education, certifications, skills, geographic location, internal equity, budget, and grant funding. Full-time and part-time positions (20+ hours/week) may be eligible for shift differentials for evening, night, or weekend work, as well as performance-based incentives, bonuses, or commissions not reflected in the starting rate.
