Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Utilizes the nursing process as the basis for nursing care.
- Provides direct patient care.
- Performs nursing functions, applying professional skills.
- Documents and maintains date on patient’s record.
- Maintains a safe environment.
- Applies basic teaching / learning concepts to patient education.
- Provides for life support.
- Acts as a patient advocate.
- Cooperates as a member of the nursing unit, department and overall hospital team.
- Participates in performance improvement.
- Delegates and / or supervises aspects of care to team members and reviews completion.
- Communicates pertinent data to appropriate parties.
- Maintains patient confidentiality.
- Counsels and teaches patients.
- Administers intravenous medications and / or parenteral nutrition.
- Administers blood products and evaluates patient response.
Education
- Associates degree in Nursing Required;
- Bachelors degree in Nursing Preferred.
Licenses/Certifications
- RN license required.
- CPR required.
- ACLS and PALS preferred.
Additional Experience
- One year of RN experience preferred.
- Current knowledge of clinical practice.
- Ability to operate and handle many kinds of complex equipment.
- Ability to demonstrate clinical competence and maintain current knowledge in caring for adolescent through geriatric patients.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Knowledge
- Knowledge of theory, principles, techniques, and practice of professional nursing;
- Of scientific principles and nursing research;
- Of preparation, administration, and actions of medications;
- Of treatments and medical procedures;
- Of counseling and teaching techniques;
- Of medical equipment as it relates to patient care.
