About the role

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides nursing care to patients utilizing the nursing process and standards of practice for a professional nurse. The RN is expected to perform all staff nurse activities and function as charge nurse when assigned. The RN maintains overall accountability/responsibility for assigned patients, even though some activities/tasks may be delegated to Technical Nurses, Patient Care Associates, and/or Sitters. Assignments are performed appropriately to age and developmental level of patients being served. All team members will be expected to work all areas of their unit.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct patient care including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care plans.
  • Delegates tasks to appropriate personnel as per the nursing process.
  • Maintains accountability for assigned patients, including those under the supervision of other nurses.
  • Works collaboratively with the healthcare team to ensure patient care quality and safety.
  • Performs all staff nurse activities and functions as charge nurse when assigned.
  • Ensures compliance with hospital policies and procedures, regulatory requirements, and standards of practice.

Requirements

  • Education: Associate's Degree. Specific course work: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Licensure/Certifications: Licensed to practice nursing in the state of Florida. BLS from the American Heart Association is required for all areas. ACLS is required within 6 months of hire or transfer. NRP is required within 6 months of hire or transfer. STABLE must be obtained within 6 months of hire or transfer. Fellowship RN's must obtain their ACLS and NRP within six (6) months of hire or transfer. Crisis Prevention Institute training within ninety (90) days, and then annually, is required for Psych Unit.
  • Experience: Less than one year: For New Nurse Fellowship Program ONLY 1-2 years: 1-2 years of med/surg or related experience. Preferred Experience: 1 year of clinical experience.

Qualifications

  • Current employees who were hired or transferred into the position prior to August 1, 2013 will be grandfathered.
  • New hires effective June 14, 2017, must have a BSN degree from an accredited school of nursing within three (3) years of hire or transfer into the position.
  • Employees must recertify fetal monitoring every two years with the required divisional update based on the available learning assigned.
  • Employees must recertify STABLE every two years based on the date of the most recent certification and within 72 hours of the end of the month they were certified.
