Registered Nurse - Progressive Care Unit (PCU) - Full Time Nights

Position Summary

The Registered Nurse is a member of the interdisciplinary team working in collaboration with the Physician. The Registered Nurse utilizes the nursing care process consistent with their license and/or certification including initiation of culturally competent continuum of care including inpatient, outpatient and community settings. The Registered Nurse is responsible for overseeing any necessary coordination of the interdisciplinary plan of care and provides for its consistency with the medical treatment plan.

Patient Care Process

• Assessment – an orderly process consisting of the identification, gathering and organization of subjective and objective data pertaining to the patient/family/significant other, including physical, psychosocial, spiritual and cultural.
• Planning – an organized step in the process that consists of the identification of actual or potential problems and desired outcomes (goals) that result in a documented plan of care. The plan of care provides direction for the patient/family/significant other and interdisciplinary team.
• Intervention – the specific interventions or orders that are implemented consistent with the plan of care and medical treatment plan.
• Evaluation – a step in the process that involves determining the effectiveness of the interventions in achieving the plan of care and determining the conclusions concerning the achievement or lack of achievement of desired outcomes. The evaluation may initiate the need for reassessment and revisions to the problems, goals, plan of care, and interventions. This step provides for documentation of required actions.

Key Responsibilities

• Identify and prioritize patient problems relative to biophysical, psychological, environmental, self-care, educational and social status based upon findings identified during assessment and reassessment.
• Identify goals consistent with the problem to provide direction for patient care and health promotion.
• Provide education consistent with the identified problem and associated goals, seen as critical to creating an environment that promotes patient empowerment.
• Perform Limited Laboratory Services as required, including patient identification and preparation for specimen collection, processing samples for testing, performing required quality control testing and instrument maintenance and function checks, monitoring, recording and reporting tests results to clinicians including critical values, and maintaining competency/certification of the aforementioned tasks and duties.
• Document the assessment, plan, intervention and evaluation consistent with scope of practice and knowledge base.
• Administer all patient care activities according to standards, procedural guidelines and organizational policy.
• Actively support performance improvement initiatives and provide leadership to other members of the patient care team.
• Assume responsibility for continued professional and personal growth by participating in educational activities.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred.
• Current Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Jersey or current multi state license required.
• American Heart Association BLS required upon hire or transfer.
• Proficiency in Clinical Applications preferred at time of hire; incumbents within position will be trained appropriately and then skill will be required within 30-60 days from date of hire.

Unit-Specific Requirements

Emergency Room – Mainland & Satellite Hammonton

• 2 years medical/surgical and/or emergency room experience preferred.
• ACLS required within 6 months of hire or transfer.
• Minimum of 8 contact hours of education every 1 year in basic trauma assessment, intervention and stabilization.
• Minimum of 8 contact hours of education every 1 year in basic stroke assessment, intervention and NIHSS to be completed by 6 months of hire or transfer and continuously maintained thereafter.
• ATCN or TNCC required within 24 months of hire or transfer.
• PALS or ENPC attained within 12 months of hire or transfer.
• CPI within 1 year of hire or transfer.

Emergency Room – City

• 2 years medical/surgical and/or emergency room experience preferred.
• ACLS required within 6 months of hire or transfer.
• ATCN or TNCC required within 24 months of hire or transfer.
• Minimum of 8 contact hours of education every 1 year in basic trauma assessment, intervention and stabilization.
• Minimum of 8 contact hours of education every 1 year in basic stroke assessment, intervention and NIHSS to be completed by 6 months of hire or transfer and continuously maintained thereafter.
• PALS or ENPC attained within 12 months of hire or transfer.
• CPI within 1 year of hire or transfer.

Trauma Bay

• ACLS, PALS & ATCN at time of hire.
• NIHSS and minimum of 8 contact hours of education every 1 year in basic stroke assessment or intervention within 1 year of hire or transfer.

3 Harmony Trauma

• 2 years medical/surgical experience preferred; Critical care experience preferred.
• ACLS required within 6 months from date of hire or transfer.
• ATCN required within 3 years from date of hire or transfer.
• NIHSS and minimum of 8 contact hours of education every 1 year in basic stroke assessment or intervention within 1 year of hire or transfer.

3 Harmony ICU

• 2 years medical/surgical experience preferred; Critical care experience preferred.
• ACLS required within 6 months from date of hire or transfer.
• NIHSS and minimum of 8 contact hours of education every 1 year in basic stroke assessment or intervention within 1 year of hire or transfer.

Intensive Care Unit (ICU)/(CTICU)

• 2 years medical/surgical experience preferred; Critical care experience preferred.
• ACLS required within 6 months from date of hire or transfer.
• NIHSS and minimum of 8 contact hours of education every 1 year in basic stroke assessment or intervention within 1 year of hire or transfer.
• CCRN preferred.

Cardiovascular ICU (CVU)

• 2 years critical care and Cardiovascular ICU experience preferred.
• ACLS required within 6 months from date of hire or transfer.
• NIHSS and minimum of 8 contact hours of education every 1 year in basic stroke assessment or intervention within 1 year of hire or transfer.
• CCRN preferred.

Heart and Vascular Unit (HVU)

• 2 years telemetry experience preferred.
• ACLS required within 6 months from date of hire or transfer.
• NIHSS and minimum of 8 contact hours of education every 1 year in basic stroke assessment or intervention within 1 year of hire or transfer.

3 Harbor (PCU)

• 2 years telemetry experience preferred.
• NIHSS and minimum of 8 contact hours of education every 1 year in basic stroke assessment or intervention within 1 year of hire or transfer.
• ACLS preferred.

3 Pines / 3 Central

• Medical/Surgical experience preferred.
• NIHSS and minimum of 8 contact hours of education every 1 year in basic stroke assessment or intervention within 1 year of hire or transfer.
• ACLS preferred.

1 South / 1 Meadow

• Medical/Surgical experience preferred.
• ACLS preferred.

3 Meadow

• Medical/Surgical experience preferred.
• ACLS preferred.

4 South / 4 Meadow

• Medical/Surgical experience preferred.

5 Harmony

• Medical/Surgical experience preferred.
• NIHSS and minimum of 8 contact hours of education every 1 year in basic stroke assessment or intervention within 1 year of hire or transfer.

4 Michigan

• Medical/Surgical experience preferred.

Med Surg / Cardiac / Stroke Care (2 West / 2 Pines)

• Medical/Surgical experience preferred.
• NIHSS and minimum of 8 contact hours of education every 1 year in basic stroke assessment or intervention within 1 year of hire or transfer.
• ACLS preferred.

6 Harmony

• Medical/Surgical experience preferred.
• ACLS required within 1 year from date of hire or transfer.

Pre-Admission Testing (PAT)

• Medical/Surgical experience preferred.

Operating Room

• Medical/Surgical, Critical Care and operating room experience preferred.
• Effective 1/1/25, all new OR team members must scrub and/or learn to scrub during their orientation within six months.
• ACLS is required by 12/31/24 for all RNs in the City OR and 4/25/25 for all RNs in the Mainland OR.
• CNOR preferred.

PACU / Same Day Surgery / Recovery Room

• Critical Care or PACU experience required.
• ACLS is required at time of hire or transfer.
• PALS is required within 6 months from date of hire or transfer.
• CPAN preferred.

Interventional Radiology

• 2 years medical/surgical experience required; Interventional Radiology and Critical Care experience preferred.
• ACLS is required at time of hire or transfer.
• PALS is required within 1 year from date of hire or transfer.

Cath Lab (Cath Lab Holding, Electrophysiology)

• Critical care, emergency room, cath-lab or telemetry experience preferred.
• ACLS at time of hire or transfer.

Non-Invasive Lab MLD

• 2 years telemetry experience required.
• ACLS at time of hire or transfer.

Endoscopy

• 2 years medical/surgical experience required; Endoscopy, telemetry and critical care experience preferred.
• ACLS is required within 6 months from date of hire or transfer.
• CGRN preferred.

Radiation Oncology / Cape May Radiation Therapy / Radiation Therapy Mainland

• Oncology experience preferred.
• ONS/ONCC(r) Radiation Therapy Certificate required within 6 months from date of hire or transfer, renewal every 2 years.
• Minimum of 12 oncology-related CEUs yearly or Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) or Radiation Oncology Certified Nurse (ROCN) certification renewed every 4 years.
• ROCN or OCN preferred.

Medical Oncology / Infusion Services / Cape May Medical Oncology / Retired Nurse Program (Oncology)

• Oncology experience preferred.
• ONS Fundamentals of Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy Administration or Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy certification required.
