Position Summary
Essential Functions of the Job
- Provide skilled nursing care to inmates
- Review initial medical screening of inmates; interview inmates regarding health history and current status
- Screen complaints to determine if medical attention is needed; review non-emergency requests in a timely manner
- Make a physical assessment of inmates with medical complaints; prepare for physical exams; log and record inmate exams
- Refer sick or injured inmates to appropriate health care professional; schedule appointments as needed for medical care
- Document health care given, prepare and maintain confidential health records
- Monitor health care given to inmates including treatment and medication; apply first aid when necessary
- Administer prescribed medication; identify, track and verify medication brought into the detention facility; maintain security and control DEA controlled medication
- Work cooperatively with Jail Physician, physician's assistants, detention staff, licensed pharmacists and other contact health care providers
- Auxiliary in maintaining specialized treatment programs such as drug withdrawal, isolation of communicable diseases, dental care, mental evaluations and counselor contacts
- Act as a resource person for and provide health care education to staff and inmates
- Provide Tuberculosis Screening and Hepatitis B Vaccination to current employees of the department
- Adhere to safe work practices and procedures
Education/Training Requirements
- Actively Certified R.N. in Wyoming
- CPR Certification
