About the role

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will play a crucial role in providing direct patient care, collaborating with healthcare teams, and ensuring compliance with facility policies and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care by conducting initial medical screenings, assessments, and ongoing healthcare as needed.
  • Administer prescribed medications, treatments, and medical interventions in compliance with physician orders and healthcare protocols.
  • Respond to and manage medical emergencies, ensuring timely and appropriate interventions.
  • Accurately document patient assessments, treatments, and progress in the EMR.
  • Maintain compliance with all state, federal, and local healthcare regulations, and facility-specific policies.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to provide comprehensive care to inmates.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, their families, and correctional facility staff regarding treatment plans, health education, and health-related concerns.
  • Assume leadership roles in the absence of higher-level management, overseeing day-to-day operations of the nursing team and ensuring proper patient care delivery.
  • Serve as a clinical resource and mentor to other nursing staff, providing guidance and support on clinical practices, protocols, and emergency response procedures.
  • Supervise and assist LPNs and nursing assistants in patient care tasks, ensuring compliance with healthcare standards and best practices.
  • Ensure medical equipment and supplies are appropriately stocked, maintained, and functioning properly; report any issues to facility management.
  • Participate in ongoing quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and clinical outcomes within the facility.
  • Contribute to the development and review of healthcare policies and clinical procedures to ensure they remain in line with current practices and regulations.
  • Work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, to meet the facility’s healthcare needs.

Requirements

  • A current, valid state(s) license, certificate, and/or credentials documenting ability to practice in applicable role (e.g., CMA, LPN, RN, LMHP, etc.)
  • A High School diploma or GED
  • An Associate’s or Bachelor's degree in Healthcare, Nursing, or a related field (preferred but not required)
  • 1-3 years of experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in a correctional healthcare or similar environment
  • Experience in roles that involve direct patient care or administrative support in a regulated environment (preferred)
  • Strong understanding of healthcare regulations, policies, and procedures as they relate to the correctional setting (advantage)
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively, adhere to protocols, and deliver high-quality service in a fast-paced, structured environment
  • Active CPR/BLS certificate required (American Heart Association/American Red Cross guideline approved)

Qualifications
